Speaker placement on the box can affect a few things. Most times its discussed in terms of affecting rear waves. But this is more about air movement inside the box, and into/through the port.

I believe the suggestion on moving the sub in this case was due to concern the driver is placed so close to the port openings that some fo the box's volume will not be fully utilized. It becomes 'dead space' if you will. The air pressure moves directly from the driver to the ports, instead of filling the entire cavity (compressing/decompressing it) and then forcing the pressure out via the ports. Hope that makes sense.

Which is exactly why I usually try to place the driver as far away from the inner port end as possible. If theres a problem with a pressure spot in the box that can usually be taken care of with a 45* angle. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Sexy box, Ignoreme. I'll be doing something like that for my subs.
Metered up yet?
IMO, there is no point in measuring this setup. i will build a new box and see how i like it.

i can tell you this, even in this current alignment, im gonna have to give spl to the AQ over the btl, even with less power going to it. just an all around more efficient sub seems like. well see how/if the new box will change the way the sub reacts.

Ive read this whole thread and I have to give tommy some props good info //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif this is to the OP my HD's did the same thing, I know what noise your talking about, it does go away with break in time. If it has the same amount of spiders as the hd did it will take some time to break in. Lets just say I beefed my 10's to 8 spiders //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif and holy i dont think they will ever break in lol. The spiders are very stiff with good reason. It almost took me a half of an spl season to break in the hd's 6 spiders and as DJ mentioned to me before and he was correct the db's went up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif im still trying to get my 8 spider subs to break in more so I can find out which is better for the power im running. In my case with the noise I was pushing the woofers to hard before the spiders loosened(

hmm, i will keep that in mind then. i still think a new box is in order for sure, as i would like to get the tuning up and maybe get a burp off or two to see how i meter, as i have never done that. i think a more optimized box couldnt hurt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif but thanks for the info. puts me a little bit as ease.

it really is a weird noise, and it definitely doesnt sound good as your instinct says "turn it down!" lol. as far as the configuation i really dont know. all i know is that the subs have aluminum VC's. every thing else is kind of a mysterty to me.

I can almost guarantee it has 6 spiders. I def know what noise your talking about, the enclosure may have alot to do with it as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I cant wait to get my hands on a pair //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

good shit. i will try to take out all variables (ie enclosure), and then will update as the problem gets better/stays the same/gets worse

From watching your video's, I can guarantee the noise isn't comming from the sub bottoming out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I should have taken a video of the 12 I tested with 4 M1a's running it. My guess is that the box is making the sound from the woofer being loaded so hard against it.

Just my experiance with the AQ woofers, I would seriously recommend building your new box with 2 layers of 3/4 MDF. You'll gain a considerable amount of output and it will sound much better.

My 0.02 about the sub location on the baffle. I would center the woofer between the port wall and the side of the box, like DJ recommended. When you have the woofer that close to a wall inside the box, it causes uneven pressure on the cone. We went through many woofers in the Team Budweiser Luv due to that very issue. We had the woofers a little too close to the side wall of the box, and the coils would smack the top plate on the port side every time we poured some power to it. Thanks to DJ and Jassa's recommendations we were able to correct the problem. Funny thing is they helped us out, even though we were running MT's instead of DD's or AQ's. We called them trying to buy woofers because we were getting mad at the MT's, and they told us how to fix our crap so we didn't have to buy woofers.

I was really looking into getting one of these as well. however i wanted to use the same box as my bl but i don't want the same problems you had..

Would it be okay to run the hd3c15 in 4 cubes 60 square inches of port tuned to 32? I know the tuning is low, but what about the size?

no, you will not get the full potential from the woofer. The owner and just about anyone who knows what there doing tunes to what is recommend.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I had that same noise with my CSX but I was only running a hifonics 1206D to it. I free-aired it and didnt even hear the noise anymore. I even built two boxes but still got the same god awful mechanical noise. Never really got to here the csx at full potential //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Lol. I was thinking uneven loading could possibly slant the coil a little bit in the gap which would be a nono.
Does this thing really have 6 spiders?

Oh, and to the op, have you decided on a box yet? :-D
im 99.9% sure it has 6 spiders and I upgraded to 8 on my 10s on my hds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif still trying to break it in lol

Guess DJL will have to answer that one. Also If i tune my box to 38 hz what should i set the subsonic filter at? i was thinking like 25. but i dunno,
It has just the right amount of spiders to acheive the design goals. The number of spiders in of itself doesn't mean all that much in the overall suspension design.
