Get a 200rms amp and tune it down to 120rms. good/bad idea ?

Hi guys,

would it be a good idea to buy a 200rms x 4 @ 4ohm and tune it down to putout 120rms x 4 @ 4ohm ? Will that hert sound quality ?

No it wont hurt anything. It'll make the amp run cooler and last longer in doing so. PLus you'll have a metric assload of headroom.

No offense, but that MA Audio amplifier WILL NOT make 200 watts per channel RMS @ 4 ohms!

I was gonna say, MA is not known for high quality. Probably more like 125X4 at reasonable THD levels. That's still quite a bit of power.

Well, if he tries to produce 120 watts RMS per channel @ 4 ohms it might hurt SQ because his amp is only good for 100 watts RMS per channel!

that amp is 200x4 at like 15k hz to 16k hz, lol

most amp manuf do not follow the real guide lines for output they only give you a power raiding at a set range 'which they have set for there amps'

a true 200x4 amp like say a $2000 arc audio will be 200x4 over any range so alot of variables to picking an amp ussaly the more output they claim and the cheaper the amp is the worse the amp is overall //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

as for power id take a 500x2 amp over a 50x2 amp anyday for a 60w rms set of mids

you get more range as others have said

you get cleaner ouput capabilitys

i LOVE this advice,

HELP me find a 150+ rms @4ohm.

i love the alpine 150x4, but what i dont like about it is that it puts the same amout of power @ 2ohm.

the alpine is very nice yes they give same output at 2phms and 4 but most alpine amps in that series can do alittle more than the stated voltage they should have 'birth sheets' that state there lab tested outputs.

if you want a nice amp that is 4 channel but rocks at 4 ohms and gives more at 2ohms

btw they are 22in long so very big / long so dont fit in some installs easy
