General Question...

Alright so I had a old sub in my car. I got new subs while still using the same amp. Two days ago my car was driving and then it just stopped out of no where. Anything and everything electrical would not work (power windows, power locks, headlights, taillights, four ways, blinkers, etc.) Me and my friend pushed it to his house for his dad to look at. He popped the trunk moved the subs around just to look and then opened the door. He noticed the door open light on so he took my keys and started the car. The question is what is wrong? My friends dad believes it is a short in the wires to the subs somewhere along the line. Obviously it is the subs/wiring/amp/something to do with the new system because before I got the new subs in there the car ran fine. If anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction for help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It's possible the new subs are drawing alot more power out of your amp (Specs in this case would help) and you have a weak/corroded/loose ground either at your battery or your amp. This can cause such a huge voltage drop that all electrical looses power. The system will regain power after the loose ground is giggled or removed and replaced to 'reset' the link.

Since he only messed around in the trunk before you regained power I'd look at the amp ground closely.

I had this problem on my last car where the negative terminal on the battery lost its nut so it was attached but it wasn't really tight like it should be.

Its funny you would say this because when I was putting them in I took the negative off and when I was trying to loosen the bolt it broke so it is also on but probably not as tight as it should be.

As for the specs... The subs are the Rockford Fosgate P1L-210 seen here...

The amp is a Rockford Fosgate Punch 201s seen here...

Should I tighten the ground wire on the amp as well as try to make the negative on the battery tighter?

I had an issue where my car wouldn't start because one of my battery cables was loose. But I would look into my electrical. Make sure your battery and alt are ok. Did your lights dim a lot?

Well when it happened every light on my dash (check engine, battery, seat belt, etc.) turned on then turned off then my car stopped and nothing would turn on.

That's your problem (i believe). Go to schucks or whatever autobody store you have out there and get an new battery terminal for $5. If your ground isn't on tight, a power surge, or bump can shut everything down. Mine cracked recently and I didn't know. I went to start my car and all electronics just shut of. I moved the ground and everything came back on. Went to start the car and it happened again. The surge at start was more then the connection could take. Replaced it, no problems.

You should replace the negative on your battery. Might as well get a new post and run 4g from bat neg to chassis and just replace the original (keep any other wires that may run to the negative and don't go to the chassis but somewhere else in your engine compartment). Then you'll have one of the big three replacements complete //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Alright I went through the trouble of seeing all the wiring... Took everything off to see the wires... Nothing was wrong with any of the wires... So tomorrow I am returning my battery since I have warrenty and I can... I am getting new battery clamps for both the positive and negative... I am hopeing this will fix all my problems... If not I am sure I will be back here...

Problem was fixed it had nothing to do with the subs... Some wires that lead to some major fuses was loose so it jiggled... Hopefully everything goes well with the car...
