i have so called, pro audio people telling me that a highly powered sub can be powered by a low powered amp and still sound good. Are they right?

Uhh...yea. Its not like lower power means worse sound quality...it just means less output.

A sub made to handle 500rms getting 500rms will almost always be louder than a sub made to handle 3000rms getting 500 rms, if thats what you're referring to

And btw lower power often means better SQ

but the answer is yea itll still sound good just not be as loud as it could be in your case not NEARLY as loud

Basically its like you're trying to say that when you turn down the volume on your HU it makes your sub sound worse...this really isn't very complicated..

at first I had a 12" CVR powered by a KX350 then I got a 15L7 and used the 350 on it for a week it wasn't as loud as the cvr was but it still sounded good, could have been the boxes they were in too.

if you turn the hu volume down you send less power to your subs so do your subs sound worse with low volume? no just quieter
