GCAdidas's new ideas

alright well

i'm actually now heavily considering running two of the new PG Xenon amplifiers.

PG X200.4 : 200 x 4 at 4 ohms

PG X1200.1 : 1200 x 1 at 4 ohms

both are the same size so I can create an amprack that has a bit of symmetry.

if one 1200.1 is not loud enough i will buy another 1200.1.

what do we think?

i would do the kicker over pg but thats just me. those amps have alot of success in sq events from both lines. sx 1250 sx 700.4 same size (way under rated @175x4) add a sxrc with a deck with time alignment and your in like flynn. you should get another eq unless your 15 bander can adjust center frequencies anyway .. pg might be more linear in its topology but the kicker whips its *** about everywhere else. i bet the 700.4 is real close in power output at 4 ohm vs the xeon (within 1-1.5 db).also dont forget rf amps still have alot of power (almost cheater spec amps again)

about kicker, I am not too fond of them for a couple reasons... first they rate their amplifiers at 2 ohms, so the 700.4 does 175 x 4, but that's at 2 ohms. so on the website in the 700.4 and 900.4 product manual, there's actually a whitesheet that says that at 13.8v, the things only run 80 and 105 RMS at 4 ohms with all four channels driven. "Dynamic Power" is only about 10 watts RMS higher than rated RMS at 13.8v.

I dont like the history of Kicker in general. I don't like how a company that makes many many straight SPL speakers is making SQ-based amplifiers.

I dont like what I've heard of past Kicker products. My friend (with a very good ear) experienced a Kicker amp from a couple years ago in a quality install sound quite off, from what I've heard.

Well that's all for me today, I have to get showered, and go camping for the evening.

Thanks!

Brian

kicker amps do alot more power than where "they rate them" about 30% more nothing "dynamic" about that. solobarics arent "spl only speakers" they just arent small box drivers at all. if it sounds off i wanna know how its a good install. not bashing you just try to open your mind to some things here. you can get pyramid to sound really really good with a good install so why would a better proven product be worse?

I just had a guy that I know pretty well up in Mansfield OH do an install of one of the bigger kicker component amps and he couldn't get it to sound right...

I wouldn't like to buy the new kicker because if I get a 1250.1 and 900.2 off Ebay that easily puts me over $1,000 without adding shipping...

The 1200.1 and 200.4 would cost me $710 shipped

I just think that the Phoenix gold is the best performance vs. price deal out there for me right now.

Let me know what you think.

Brian

point taken price is an issue but i would recomend a x over as well. the kicker stuff is pretty tight for that 6-36 db slopes is insane i play mine with 72 and 36 db on sub and mid respectavaly blends in alot better than less step slopes

Exactly, when you factor in the cost of a quality Xover (THAT YOU MUST HAVE)...the price points will meet...or be better the other way around //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

You'll need TWO bandpassable pairs, a highpass, and a low pass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Not something the normal 3 way xover is going to supply to you. You'll have to look into VERY pricey digital xovers, like the AudioControl DXS or DQS or something of the sort...not even sure if that has enough capability.

So, just keep in mind...it gets EVERYTHING you need in one package. With MUCH stricter slopes, TONS of adjustable frequencies. You can't bandpass correctly or NEARLY as well with the PG's...are you try to use the Passives with the DLS or what? MAD cancellation with overlapping frequencies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif b/w them and the Koda's...

Oh well, just trying to help you do it right the first time...save some money in the long run...and prevent future headaches.

Brian man if you can the kickers would be much better then directed or PG...... hell I'm probably gunna pick up two kx1200.1's for my mags....... so if you can't aford US amps, Zapco, Tru ect..... I'd say the sx line would be your best bet.

If you had the money go to e-bay and buy a couple of the old art series ppi A-1200s and a couple of A-600.2s this would fit what your trying to do I know the sq of these amps personally...they are in the elite status of sql amps without a doubt

Noah,

I am getting closer and closer to buying the Kicker SX amplifiers.

I don't know what to do to run everything active though...

Seems like I need seven channels to run active.

I could get the 900.4 for the DLS mids and DLS tweeters

and I could get a 600.2 for the Koda 8's

and I could get a 2500.1 for the Avalanche 15's

That's about the only thing I could go with and be happy.
