Gain setting, amps max power less than sub rms handling

Well, I have two 500wrms subs bridged @ 2ohms to my amp(2/1 ch). I am about to set the gain in a minute but have a question! Alright, my subwoofers combined RMS is 1000rms, my amp is way under rated but supposedly puts out around 750-850wrms range bridged at 2 ohms. Do I set the gains to the subs max handling or the amps estimated max output, since the subs can handle more than the amp can put out will trying to set the gain on the amp higher than it can put out fry it?

summary: Do I set the gain to the subs max handling even though the amp cannot put out that much power, or set it to the amps max output?

What is the RMS output of the amp? You say the two subs combined RMS is over the amps max output? But then in the thread, you say the amp puts out 750-800w? Throw out the max output - that doesn't mean crap. You need the RMS rating.

I say crank the gains to 100% and wang on those subs until they make the magic smoke!

In all seriousness, cranking the gains will send the subs a clipped signal and that will eventually kill the subs, and probably the amp as well. It sound like you need a bigger amp.

I really like my amp though =(..

As for the max output the birthsheet is tested at 4ohms, 12v and its rated at 300rms with those settings in mono mode. RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 75W x 2 @ 12V, and the birth sheet says 110rms, this series amps are under rated.

The rating(RMS@ 12v 20hzto 20khz) is 300wrms bridged at 4ohms, and 400wrms @ 14.4v, 4 ohms

Ive been told that they are under rated approx 30% or so, so I assume around 500wrms @ 4ohms, 14.4v, I would guess it can at least put out 750rms @ 2ohms and around 13.6v or so

I wasent going by the max wattage, I was going by the estimated RMS.

Alpine says that this sub is 2ohm stable mono, but never released any RMS specs on it bridges @ 2ohms, so unless I go have it tested then i'll just have to speculate.

Still though, any help is much appreciated.
