Gain for 500/1 using Alpine HU

I have the Alpine CDA-9813 and a JL Audio 500/1 amp. I put the volume at 26/35 and did the gain test. I use a DMM and at 2 ohms shot for 31.6volts. I also set the amp at low voltage(?) (other option is high).

My gain is now set to 25% of max based on the test. This seems very low, and indeed my sub sounds weak.

Anyone else have this same setup? I'm curious what gain you use.

Yeah, I know a lot of people say do it by ear, but I want to figure this out first, it's annoying the crap out of me.

Thanks for the tip, you pointed me in the right direction. I looked up the voltage settings and it looks like 2V is max from the HU for the "low" setting. I have 4V from my HU so I'm going to reset with the high setting on the amp.
