Gain/Bass Control Question

Okay so I currently have 4 settings for the bass in my car.

1. Gain on the Amp

2. Gain on the LoC

3. Bass Knob from the Amp

4. Bass Control from head-unit

Now I have read somewhere that you wanna turn everything down and start from one end and go to the other (amp to HU).

So my question is, should I turn everything down to it's lowest setting and start turning it up from the amp to the head-unit?

My main concern is mostly the difference between the LoC and the gain on the Amp. I can turn the LoC about half way and not even turn the amp gain, or the opposite.

Thank you for the link, but I already know how to do that process and have read it before.

What I am trying to ask here is whether or not I turn the LoC all the way down. I'll try to explain....

1. When the LoC is turned all the way to max I have the amp's gain turn all the way down, and it is way to much power, something like 50+ volts.

2. When I have the LoC turned all the way down and the amp's gain turned all the way up I can barley get a reading on the dmm.

Basically the LoC is very touchy and I am wondering if it is better to have the LoC turned up higher and the gain on the amp lower, or the gain on the amp higher and the LoC lower. I am mainly asking this for distortion/clarity purposes.

Hopefully you understand what I am trying to say, and if not I guess it stays the way it is.
