Are fused power distributor blocks necessary?

im already fused at the battery

Then the fuse under the hood should already be sized for 4 gauge, and will protect the short piece as well.

i think it is. it is a 80amp fuse.

Fuses are not meant to protect the amps unless the amps do not have their own fuses. The fuses in the power wiring are there to protect the wire and thus the car in the event of a short in the wire.

not true. there is no need fuse a wire just because the wire changes size.

Fuses are not meant to protect the amps unless the amps do not have their own fuses. The fuses in the power wiring are there to protect the wire and thus the car in the event of a short in the wire.

this is true. matter of fact right on the money. now what you do need to consider is, is your main wire coming from the battery big enough for the amps you are attempting to run? for example the first amp may be 80amps and the second maybe 80 amps too that's a total of 160 amps and for that i would recommend stepping up the main run to the next size up.

Sure, it's safer, but it's not inferior whatsoever.

In my budget installs I just leave one fuse right after the battery and call it a day. Not the safest, but it'd a budget install... what do you want?

Fuse is there so if the power wire somehow gets in contact with ground the fuse with pop and the current flow will stop!

if you scroll down there's a question asking the same thing he's asking, does he need a fused d block. and their answer is "that depends on the installation, if the fuse on the amp is hard to get at then it would make sense to have it more accessible" which is a round a bout way of saying no and that's from a company who sells fused dblocks.
