I have some extra MDF laying around I need to get rid of.

6.5" Flush Mount Speaker Rings - Two Layers of 3/4" MDF - 1.5" Total

$12 each/$20 pair

why are they so thick? they look like 1" or more in depth...
These flush mount rings are made of two 3/4" rings. You are correct... the total depth is 1.5".

Also have some extra 1/4" and 1/2" I can make a few rings out of.

Yes. Only thing is the leads will be encased in resin. Keep in mind that this is an assumption.

I agree with every one above. OFC is much better. Copper is a much better conductor than aluminum.
