Resonating Reticular
So, a friend calls me up, and he asks me if I'd be willing to help him install a system in his car. He says his brother owed him money, so he paid him off by giving him his system. The system was 2x JL 12"s, an Alpine Amp (didn't get the model number), A Motorjoy amp (yeah, I said "WTF?" At first I thought it was some japanese company, then my brother said "motor joy... wow."), an alpine EQ and two 1 farad caps. I explained to him that caps were useless, and he's like, "That makes sense. But might as well use 'em." So, I run the wires in his TC (Which was such a pain. I swear.) Everything was already mounted on the back of what seemed to be a sealed prefab box. It could've been custom, but I'm not sure. It seemed to be constructed well enough. It had depressed sides, and seemed solid.
So, I plug everything in, and I realize there was a YT. I was like, "WHAAT?!" I got jealous. But, continued to wire it up.
Then, I pushed in the cone after I asked my friend for some zip ties. He had to go in the house, so I was just like, "Haha, JL..." I pushed the cone and felt air. I was like, "... no." I looked, and the surround was tore off the cone around, not completely, but on some places.
So, two questions, other than boredom and a need to tell that story...
Can you fix it with CA glue? I didn't get a model number off the subs, they're just a black cone that say "JL," which I know could be anything, but hopefully that tells you what the surround is made from. I think they were bought in '05.
If not, how much would a recone cost? and would it even be worth it if it's not a W series? Or is it a W-series? He's coming over tomorrow so I could finish. (He has to get a LOC) I'll take 'em out and take pics and what nots.
But, from the little info, would they be worth reconing / repairing or should he just get new ones? He was down to get new ones. I'll figure out what his amps produce and see what a good choice for him would be, and see if it's worth it to recone or not.
