Friend has Soundstorm f2800, bad amp?

My friend got a starter system, 2 sony xplod 12s/this soundstorm f2800 amp. its 2 channel, and the subs are SINGLE 4 ohm. he has the subs both on separate channels so they are getting 300 rms each, but im pretty sure that this amp is overrated. it says 300 rms x 2 @ 4 ohms so thats 300 rms per channel right? what kind of power can these sony xplods take, it says 380 rms, can it do more/less? im pretty sure his subs arent getting 300 rms, prob more like 200, but just asking u guys for ur opinions, thanks!

a mono that's 700-800rms at 2 ohms would be plenty to make them happy.

Soundstorm is a Boss Audio sister company, if that tells you anything.

i bought a soundstorm once, didn't use it and gave it to a friend instead. Heard that the amps got really hot real easy.

ok i have one more question, he has it running in series right now, so to get it to parallel it seems somewhat hard. his box is 2 chamber with 2 terminals so each subwoofer takes its own terminal. im not really sure but how do i get these subwoofers to a 2 ohm load in the 2 chamber box. thanks for the help

if he's running his subs in series then he's 8ohms per channel....try running each sub in parallel

what will parallel ohm get to? the amp is only bridgeable @ 4 ohm.

you absolutely, positively with no doubts or exceptions can run a dual 4 ohm coil sub at 4 ohms. you can only run at 8 ohms or 2 ohms=no exceptions. the only way he could run 4ohms per channel is if he is running one sub with one coil on each channel.

why do i keep putting dual 4 ohm, its single 4 ohm my bad.

Soundstorm is the entry level line from the guys who make Boss Audio. It's pretty inexpensive stuff. We've had pretty good luck as far as warranty with Boss (considering the type of customer who buys it, they actually hold up pretty well).

Not something I would put into my own car, but it isn't junk with a junk company behind it.
