Freaking 3 ohm voicecoils... what works with this?

I would really like to run a JL 12w7, but my amp is only 4 ohm stable when bridged (kicker SX900.5). What do you do to run a w7? Do you simply get a 2 ohm stable amp and lose power running it at 3 ohms?

Also, while I am picking your brains, is there a 4 ohm woofer that is as good as the w7?

What kind of sound are you looking for out of your sub? Loudness or sound quality?

JL slash amps work with the weird ohm config, as well as the PG Xenon.

Well, it will be a sealed box. I lean more towards SQ but still want something that can move some air, like the w7.

You might look into Alpine Type X, Fi Q, eD 13av.2, Image Dynamics, etc.

They will cost you a lot less than JL but will be on par.

OP,

Most people on here will stray you away from the W7. I have heard a 13w7 off a JL 1000/1 and 2 8w7's off a 500/1. I ran a DD1508 that walked all over the 8w7 off less power but the JL's were a little cleaner. I wouldnt pay retail on the sub, but it is a nice driver. Maybe look into some other brands like Fi, ID, Rainbow, Morel or something along those lines. The fi Q being the cheapest out of most of those subs. Dont let that fool you. The Fi Q is a nice clean sub.
