Ok.. i decided today i would sound deaden my door panels, since i had some material left over from a while ago.. i open the door panels no prob, disconnect the speakers and to my amazement i find rust on the wiring, and a little water on the magnet. i had these speakers installed professionally, and was pissed when i found this. I did a search and determined how the water could get into my car, found the answer in this thread, basically when the second skin was put in by the installer he removed the plastic liner on the door panel, and thus a bit of water gets in. Now i have a few options, go back to the instaler and flip on him, even though hes a friend of the fam, or i can do what i should of done in the first place reinstall everything my self. If i were to do it myself this is what i would do, but need a few recomendations, since i am new to all this. The speakers are mounted by this cheap plastic, ive seen people mount there speakers using a baffle made out of mdf, what exactly does this do? Secondly to prevent future water from entering i want to purchase this once installed i will port out a hole towards the bottom allowing better mid bass, since the reviews on crutchfield recommends this. once thats done i will finish deadening the door and finish it off. Since im short on time because of work, is there someone on the boards that can make me the mounting bracket out of mdf? what should i do with the speakers? They work fine, should i have any concerns with them? I put the screws in white vinegar to remove the rust, and i cut off the rusted areas on the wiring so the wire should be fine, but what can i do to remove the rust on the speaker connectors without causing damage? Here are some pics to show what im trying to explain..

you cant see the rust that was on the wires because the copper color is too close to match but its there..

this is the bracket i would like to have made out of mdf..

this is the rust on the connectors

these are the screws for the wire connectors..

any help or recomendations would help, thanks in advance

Those XTC baffles will work well but cut out the back of them. They muffle the midrange and kills midbass. I cut out the back and bottom of mine and they work great to repel water. The water MAY not be from the installer. I have the plastic lining on my door and water can still get in.

ok i just finsihed deadening the door panels, now im going to order the foam baffles from crutchfield, but can someone explain to me why some people have the mdf as opposed to the plastic as shown in this pic

MDF can allow more clearance if the magnet is close to the window and also allows a more custom fit for cars that don't have plastic adapters. Plus, why would I buy some plastic adapters if I had a ton of scrap MDF sitting around.

lol since you got tons of scrap mdf you wanna build me two adaptors, how much would u charge?

Haha, I would but I can't right now. I have seen people do them for about $5-10 each without shipping.
fair enough, i posted in the wanted classifieds section hopefully someone will respond if not im guessing local lumber yard carries mdf?

the plastic he took off was on the outside of the innerdoor skin

the water that got on the speakers was on the inside of the door. (seeing that the magnet is on the inside of teh door, which is not water tight)

id bet the stock speakers he took out had some waterdamage on them as well..

the mdf ring you posted is a common way to make an adapter that screws in to the stock bolt holes. then the spaker can be mounted to the mdf ring. (also giving space to clear the window inside the door)

the plastic ring your installer had used, was IMO half assed. and looks to be a ring for a speaker grill.

he should have properly cut out a mdf ring.
