Found water on speakers!!!

If i were to do it myself this is what i would do, but need a few recomendations, since i am new to all this. The speakers are mounted by this cheap plastic, ive seen people mount there speakers using a baffle made out of mdf, what exactly does this do? Secondly to prevent future water from entering i want to purchase <a href="http://www.crutchfield.com/S-BJFu8huNXfr/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=baffle&amp;i=237XT65" target="_blank">this</a> once installed i will port out a hole towards the bottom allowing better mid bass, since the reviews on crutchfield recommends this. once thats done i will finish deadening the door and finish it off. Since im short on time because of work, is there someone on the boards that can make me the mounting bracket out of mdf? what should i do with the speakers? They work fine, should i have any concerns with them? I put the screws in white vinegar to remove the rust, and i cut off the rusted areas on the wiring so the wire should be fine, but what can i do to remove the rust on the speaker connectors without causing damage?
