Found out I have a 3-way system in my car

I just took my door panel off (03 Santa Fe) and looked at my speakers. It was a tiny 3" or 4" (didn't measure) speaker being held up on top of a 6.5" (42 watt MAX). It is blocking about half the 6.5". There are also tweets in the upper door panels by the mirror. I have a monsoon factory system.

Is there anything I gain by keeping that 3" speaker?

Anything I'm losing by blocking the 6.5"?

If I were to replace, would I want to go with a 3-way or 2-way?
