Fosgate power amp gets extremely hot???

I have what I believe is an old school power 800.2. I know the older fosgate amps usually ran hot but this one gets ridiculously hot in about a minute. I was in the process of clamping it, hooked up power, ground and remote wire. I noticed it was getting warm instantly. After less than a minute I couldn't touch it. Didn't even have speaker wires plugged in yet. I unplugged it and let it cool down then hooked a sub up to it. I plug the remote wire back in an started to test. It does have output, but before I can even start to test it, it's scary hot!! Anyone else have this problem? Or suggestions on what to look for that could be causing the problem.

I would say check the impedance on your sub, but you said it did it without having the speaker hooked up. Maybe it's just the old school part, a buddy of mine had one get so hot it caught the fabric it was mounted to on fire, and my brother had an old US Amps 2000x and that thing got CRAZY hot.

Yeah. It got hot with only power, ground and remote plugged in. I pulled the bottom cover off and didn't see anything burned.... That's about as much as I know about fixing internals of amps.

does one spot on the amp get hotter than the rest? maybe take the back cover off and turn it on and see if you can see if the board is heating up in certain spots, i'd say it's blown

power hogs... hows your electrical? or too low of ohm load, every fosgate i've had ran hot, especially my 500a2
Yeah I have owned a 501bd and a 250a2. Both got hot after some use but not like this. As for electrical. It was on my test bench 50amp power supply, with 3 deka group 31 batts. 4 gauge stinger hpm wire to the amp.

And it couldn't have been wired at too low of an ohm (I didn't have anything hooked up te first time I plugged it in. The second time it was just to a Kenwood 10" sub SVC 4 ohms)
