So you have it like this?

What model number are your subs???

swr - 1221d
Those subs can only handle 300 watts safely. And being that they are in a sealed box, you should not expect them to get to loud.

A ported box would give you a large increase in output.

Edit - with a QTS of .38 they will do much better ported;)

the test tones slam at around 40 hz, well when the bass of the songs aerent around 40hz i cant even hear the bass
Most to all songs are going to be lower than a test tone. Songs play a wide variety of frequencies at different decibel lvl's. They don't receive the full power from the amp. Only on musical "peaks".

So music will be quieter than a test tone.

yea well before they were alot louder... lol

idunno i think its this amp more than anything, my friend has TWO 1200w ma audio amps and they slammed these subs hard at all times, the gains were set on full on the amps and around 0 on the hu, he had them for about 6months at full blast, it never hurt them at all, im talking Alpine type r's 300w rms subs in a sealed box getting that much power not even effecting them, but im sure the amps werent giveing the full 1200w like there rated.... but they slamed them hard, made one fall apart... didnt fry anything... the subs never smelt bad at all, with my amp the subs smell like shit some times, thats when i kno to turn it down but they slam just as hard as his...?

Dude have you been listening. If his gains were all the way up he was sending a clipped over powered signal to the subs. They were loud because they were being overpowered. If they did not blow then that was just the luck of the draw.

It is not the amp man. That is a very powerfull solid amp. If you want to turn the gain back up, by all means do so. Just know that we tried to help you...
