Ford Mustang 2004 Audio

I'm 17 years old and recently got a brand new Ford Mustang 2004. My dad kept asking me if I wanted to wait for the 2005, but for some reason, I liked the 2004 model a lot better. It isn't a GT sadly, insurance for a 17 yr old on a GT is a little high and I didn't want all the money I get from working to go to paying for my insurance.

To be honest with you all, I don't know much about cars or car audio. I am now learning about all of it and have found it intresting. But I need some help. I want to purchase some subs and amp, but I do not know which ones are good. My audio system sounds alright right now, if you have the right song on, it will vibrate. But then I got in my friend's car and I don't know what he had, but he HARDLY had his music turned up (you could hardly hear it) and the car was vibrating.

Can you anyone please tell me what to buy? Like the name of the product and brand. I want something is good, but not EXTREMELY expensive. Also, how much does it cost to get all of it installed?

Just cause it vibrates, it doesnt mean it sounds good. If you want to start the right way and learn the basics about car audio I suggest you devote at least a week to this website http://www.bcae1.com. Then once you have all that knowledge you will be able to determine for yourself what you need and want in a system. Good luck. Remember, there is no substitute for a little research before you take the plunge.

I also suggest that you set up a strict budget, because it is very easy to get ripped off if you are not a knowledgable person in respect to car audio. Determine what you want the system to sound like (SQ-based or SPL-based). Determine a theme for your vehicle (show, street, etc.) and design a specific layout of the equipment and how you want it installed. I highly suggest taking the time to do the research and do the installation yourself. It is not as difficult as it appears, all you need is some basic tools but more important some basic knowledge. Good luck and if you have any more q's then just holla.

Depends on the shop / how you want it installed / where you want it installed / products being used / etc.

How far from Memphis are you? Marshall and the boys @ Visionary could probably take care of things at a good price. And, if you wanted to purchase products though them ... they're authorized dealers for some great equipment.

Does your mustang already have the mach system in it? If not they sound pretty good for a stock setup. It has a 10 and 2 50 watt amps running the speakers. If not, you can put about anything in one. I work with them everyday at a ford dealership.

Here we go, with PICS too!

Here is the Mach 460 sound system. If you do not have one, get the factory upgrade, and improve from there!

This is the 6x8 front bottom speaker.

This is the 6cd changer h/u, made by Visteon. It's a 2.0 or double DIN, I believe.

The back speakers. Top part is a 2.5" tweeter and the bottom is a 5.25" speaker (convertible)

The coupe has another 6x8 on the bottom here.

Tweeter for the front. Same 2.5" as the back.

An overall system view. Front tweeter is in the corner of the front windowframe.

This whole point of posting these pics is to show how the Mach460 is set up from the factory, and give speaker dimensions for people to recommend replacements. Personally, i think the mach460 sound system does a good enough job, and that the first upgrade from there would be to put in subwoofers. The next step would be replacing the speakers ( the mach 460 amps deliver ~150 watts RMS throughout the car, which should be enough to get any decent brand of speaker bumpin )

Remember you will need four tweeters, not the typical two, for this car. Plus, the size of the rear speakers changes if it is coupe or convertible.

--ALL pictures were taken personally and in a white '04 convertible stang with pony and premium packages, no fin, GT scoop hood, tan top, mach 460 sound system (duh)--

And the other white car in the background is my escort :p

when i first had my mustang, i had an eclipse deck, a JL 250/1, and a single kicker comp vr. it was suprisingly decent considering what products i was dealing with. now my setup has changed dramatically, but i too had little money so i had to do it in steps. i have played with a lot of mustangs, so if you have questions, feel free to ask them.

little money? your deck was like 300 plus (lowest eclipse deck retail is 250 i believe) and JL isnt the cheapest company around. Comp VR's are good cheap subs.
