Been thinking about saving up to get a used one, hopefully 4 dr but maybe just a explorer sport 2 dr.

I was wondering, about how many miles are the ford explorers good for and what is the biggest HO alternator you can fit in one and will I be able to use a Kinetic HC 1800 in the front?

New system plans are 2 DD 3515's and a Hifonics xx Colossus and I'll probably be buying one of the DD 3515's in September or October.

Figured if I get the explorer or what ever car I get I am first going to buy he biggest HO alternator I can fit then do Big 3 in 1/0 guage and buy atleast one Kinetic HC1800 to slap under the hood, then save a bit more and buy another Kinetic HC1800 for the back and finally save up for the HiFonics xx Colossus and some 1/0 guage power and ground wire.

Cool, I've had both, 2nd gen 2dr and a 4dr, now I have an expedition.

My first one, 1995, had 173,000 original everything, OHV V6 no major probs, when it got flood totalled. Second one, 1999, just traded w/ 115,000 no major probs, SOHC V6. I had a Optima g34 in my first truck, and a Kinetik 2400 in my 2 dr. Just fyi, explorers resale values aren't great. Biggest alt is prob dependant on how much mods you want to do, same size casing as stock you can get 240amp I believe.

If you want to do 15"s I'd reccommend a 4dr, they have more cargo area than a 2dr.

i had a 93 eddie bauer 5 speed, and i had to replace the ****** at 92-93k. other than that, no major problems. then i traded it in for my latest car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

my 97 auto i need to replace the ****** on and its at 96k lmao

I got a 94 4 door with about 170K on it. Stuff Ive had to fix on it

1. Mass Airflow sensor x2

2. Starter

3. Fan belt tentioner

4. auto down controll box for the drivers side window motor.

Thats about it besides stuff like tires/brakes/shocks. My parents and later sold it to me so I know everything thats been done to it.

All in all its been very good to me and I hope to get another 30K out of her.

your 97 does the ****** shift 1-2 very hard?96-99 explorers had problems with a valve body gasket pretty easy fix fyi.
im having this problem.. could you send me a PM with a little more info?

to the thread starter.. i have a 96 2dr it have about 112 on it and ive only had a couple minor problems with it.. one being the shift issue, and another being some IAC controller that acts up every now and then and ****s up my idle.. but not a huge deal.

i have loved it though as long as ive had it. id recommend getting one.

plus theyre loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.. the temp. system i have in my car was free (free 300 watt amp, free alpine type e, free wood for ported box) and its still louder than most peoples around here.. doesnt say much about the systems in my neighborhood, but i definately give the car credit for the huge boost in output.

.. 2 dr its kinda tough fitting 2 15s if they require a biggish box.. especially if youre trying to keep it under the window line.. but you can do it.

nope, it doesnt go at all, no forward reverse no nothing it graually wouldnt go into second then it stopped working all together.

mine while it started messing up would randomly throw the O/D light on and off sometimes then it would go 2 weeks without coming on, i had no idea whyit did it so we just ran it til i woulnt drive anymore

ive got a 97 4 door 5.0L V8, 152k miles, ori engine/****** :)
um what part of tampa are you in?

Actually I don't live in Tampa but in the Tampa Bay area....Indian Rocks Beach to be exact....why do you ask?

To the other posters talking about gear and rpm problems, are you referring to the manual Explorers or the automatics?
