hi ev02k3 - i am planning to build a slot/ported box tuned to 39hz

for a 10'' solobaric L7 these are the spec for box (external)

height - 14''

width - 16''

depth - 16''

for a internal volume of 1.521 cubic feet

spec for port -

height - 12.5''

width - 1.75''

length - 20.75''

ev02k3 will this box work for the 10''L7

or what mesurements would you recommend as to box

height, width, length (and port) height, width, length and tuning feq (hz)

thanks for your help.

how much power is it running? probably wont be an issue, but want to make sure that port size wont give you un wanted noise (cause by air leaving the box at more than 30m/s)....let me know and then ill confirm those numbers

evo2k3 thank you for the reply

my 10''L7 is a dual 4ohm voice coil sub i have it wired in parallel

for a 2ohm load.

i will be powering my 10'' L7 with my precision power

a 600.2 (left channel) at 2ohm stereo for about 300+ watts

if it sounds ok then i will be adding another 10''L7 dual 4ohm voice coil sub

wired in parallel for a 2ohm load wired to the (right channel) and it will have 300+ watts at 2ohm stereo. i will be using the low pass output from my kicker zr460 set at

60hz into the a 600.2

my a 600.2 has no subsonic filter. will this ported box work or what

would you recommend . your help will be much appreciated

thanks again

ok, lets get a start on this.....the hieght and width of your port are fine, you should not have problems with noise. I would first suggest that if you have the room to go bigger, something 2+ cubes after all displaments. which brings me to my next questin, was is the exacst displacemt of the sub? (your owners manual with explicitly list this). What are the biggest demension you are able and willing to make the box? If you wanted to stick with those demensions (which you absolutley can), I used .1(a decent guess) as the speaker displacment leaving the net volume to be 1.421ft^3 ...useing that and the 12.5*1.75" port, its length should be 17.17 inches to tune it to 39hz ...i would still like to use the exact number if you can get them, but the guess will get you very close to 39hz.

ev02k3 thank you for the reply

this is the thiele/small parameters for a 10'' L7 dual

4ohm voice coil sub. that i copied from the L7 technical manual

Nominal impedance - 4ohm

SPL 1w/1m - 85.7

Displacement, cc - 1830

Displacement, cuin - 111.8

Mounting depth - 6-3/8

Revc - 3.64

VC inductance,mh - 3.91

Sd,sqm - 0.0439

BL - 16.328

Vas, liters - 35.071

Vas,cuft - 1.24

Mms,gms - 186.9

Fs - 32.5

Qms - 10.675

Qes- 0.521

Qts - 0.497

Pmax,watts - 600

Xmax,mm - 13.20

hope this infomation will help

i could also build a ported box with spec that you recommend

but i need to stay at

height - 14''

width - 16''

depth - 16-18.5'' will adjust depth per your instructions

thank you.

ok heres what you can do:

build the box to 14"x16"x18.8" (HxWxD)

that will give you a net displacment of 1.783 ft^3 less 0.064ft^3 for the speaker, yeilding 1.72ft^3.

port: 1.75"x12"x12.42" (HxWxL)

that gets you tune right about 39hz, should work well for ya.

ev02k3 - thank you for all your help

i'll get started on building the slot/ported box

per your recommendation (spec)

and l will let you know how it sounds.

thanks again.

hi evo2k3

built box to recommended spec - 14'' h x 16'' w x 18.8'' d = 1.72 cuft plus port

port/slot spec

12''h x 1.75''w x 12.50'' L

( using 3/4'' mdf)

sub pops while playing low bass, reggae, sounds bad, like a free air at high volume

mabe box volume to large for sub.

put sub back into sealed box, sub returned to normal

no poping while playing low bass. raggae

spec of sealed box 13'' h x 13'' w x 13'' d = .88 cuft

built new box - 13'' h x 15''w x 15'' d = 1.213 cuft plus port (using 3/4 mdf)

port/slot spec

11.50'' h x 1.50''w x 21.0'' L

sub sounds better no popping while playing low bass, raggae

more output volume (loud) only powering sub with 300 watts

will stay with new box spec . thank you for all your help.

aloha
