for 1 Ed 12O.44, help me pick an amp out of these three?

Ok, I changed my order with Ed from the 12K.44 to the 12O.44 and decided that I do not need more than one 500W sub in my little Saturn, so I gave up on finding an amp that can handle two of these subs.

After researching all of the amps out there that can handle a 500W RMS DVC sub, I have narrowed it down to these 3 amps that I think will give me the best price-to-performance ratio. Now I need feedback from the experts! (that would be you guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif )

US Acoustics USX800D - $237.99 w/3 year warranty at theZeb

from everything I have read in my searches here, this one is a winner!

Rated 600 watts x 1 @ 2 ohms

JBL 600.1 - $279.99 w/1 year warranty at eTronics

a LOT of people here love these & own them, but JMac and a few others

feel the US Acoustics is a better buy, from what I have read.

Rated 600 watts x 1 @ 2 ohms

Audiobahn 8001DQ - $299.99 w/1 year warranty at theZeb

not a lot of info found on this one, but seems to have a LOT of nice features.

this is the only amp I found with cooling fans, and has a THD of 0.05%... are the

cooling fans worth it?

Rated 500 watts x 1 @ 2 ohms

I am also looking to get a second amp to power the CDT CL-61a comps, which are rated at 90W RMS @ 4 Ohms, and have it narrowed down to:

US Acoustics USX2080 - $82.99 w/3 year warranty at theZeb

pros: great reviews from the posts in this forum & rated 80W @ 12.9 v

cons: 2-channel.... not usefull if I ever want to add another pair of speakers

US Acoustics USX4085 - $172.99 w/3 year warranty at theZeb

pros: rated 85W @ 12.9 v with room for another pair of speakers (4-channel)

cons: twice the price of the 2080, not in stock!

Ok, thanks for reading this long post.... I have researched this to the point that my head is spinning! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

any and all comments/opinions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I think the 800D would be the best. It comes with everything you need and is a very nice amp, just like my 600D. Its also cheaper then the rest of them, so theres no compairison, get the 800D. And for your speaker amp, do a price match at sounddomain.com they should have the USX's in stock...

Yea, that price did seem a lil high. But for the extra 20-30bux (after you figure in shipping at etronics for the JBL) there would be no reason to go after the "superior " amp...

the usx800d or the audiobahn...id go with the usx because its cheaper tho. you will not be let down either way, im sure.

and BTW, thank you for actually researching and giving us a list of amps to choose from with their specs. it gets annoying when people leave really open-ended questions and ask us to find the amps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thanks for all of the help guys.... I can only go so far on pure "research", and I can't get my hands/ears on all of these amps, so getting your opinions really helps!!

And thanks to everyone who reads this thread that answered my questions a couple of months back on the hu.... I almost made a HUGE mistake by impulse buying a Pioneer at Best Buy! I just had the Alpine 9815 installed today.... awesome hu!!! Now I can't wait to get the CDT's and the Ed O in there! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

I just bought the US Acoustics USX-4085 at Crutchfield from their outlet for $161.99 with free shipping (Discover Card perk) and a 3-year warranty...

It's great if you are good.... but sometimes it's better to be lucky.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Ok, now to find the sub amp....

Originally posted by Jmac Might as well get the US Acoustics for the sub amp so it matches :p
Agreed.... I looked at the SoundStream amp, but the US Acoustics seems to have a little more power and a little less price.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Looks like theZeb has the cheapest price, so I will be ordering that tonight.... now it is time to head over to the Wiring forum and does some searches on distro blocks, 4ga, RCA cables, etc...

Thanks again for all the help JMac!

Originally posted by Woodmister Theres mixed opinions on this but walmart sells a 4gauge kit that includes a disto box, 4gauge, 2 sets of RCAs, etc, etc for 27bux (thats what Im getting)...
Sounds like exactly what I need! Thanks for the info... I must admit, Wal*Mart was not in the top 3 places that jumped to mind when thinking about my wiring... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So far I have read mixed opinions about having a distro block with fuses, versus have the inline wire fuses.... can't see why that would make a difference, since you would have BOTH in my mind.....

Anyway, thanks again....

Originally posted by Jmac Because you only need one inline fuse on the main power wire ...
True.... but I thought it would be a good idea to have a fuse on each of the power wires going to the amps as well.... I am overly cautious.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But, I am not really paranoid by nature.... just don't want to screw up my first system by making a careless mistake.....
