Fix one problem now I have another...

Here's the deal - 2003 Explorer - just replaced the subs that my step son blew up(cheapo free ones that I had too much power going to them...I knew it was a matter of time). Built a new box for them and upgraded the amp. Now I'm getting a really high pitched hum when running and all the voices sound really tinny....all the dj's on the radio sound like they're in an echo chamber. The whine does not fluctuate when I rev the engine....it doesn't sound anything like any ground fault/loop issues I've experienced in the past. Also it only seems to be coming from the door speakers. Any advice? Maybe it is a bad ground on the amp?

JVC deck - Cadence 4 channel (75x4@4 IIRC) - Polk coaxs(cant recall 5x7 or 6x8) - Alpine PDX 1000.1 powering 2 TB 8" subs.

Also when I am playing thru my Zune the voices(treble?) sounds the same and you can hear all the clicks from the Zune thru the speakers.....doesn't do that it my truck.....

Help Please!!!

OK - thanks for the replys....but how do I do that? I have a digital multimeter....do you just check for continuity? Sorry not that smart with the Audio stuff....

pico and PRS? I don't even know what you're talkin about? Yea and BTW my wife bought the Ford before I met her.....no my choice....trust me - I gotta do rear wheel bearings when the weather gets better.....sorry bout the Alpine in the sig but when in bought it in 2001 it was pretty close to top of the line....I replaced an Alpine amp with another just for the fact I knew it would be a 2 minute job to swap the amps out....thanks for the help....

what's that mean? Low pass filter? How would that affect things? I'd have to look on what I have the amp set to. I know it's not on full - it's either on low or high pass....I always get the 2 mixed up on what they let go thru. I'll do a search but what should I have it on? I don't want the lows going to the front. Thank you for most of your responses.

Watch what you're saying about Ford!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I have owned plenty, all have been over-engineered and under thought out. Only thing good about them, is that by driving one, you arent surprised by catastrophic failure, you just expect it lol.

Agree... 99% sure no filter is involved

Thanks Phil. I just rechecked it and the DJ's still sound like they're in an echo chamber when the car is off, so the Exploder running isn't causing that. Didn't have my Zune on me to check that but I'm pretty sure it'll sound the same thru that as well. I'll check that tomorrow. I'm almost positive the amp is set on the high pass filter for all the door speakers. I'm at a loss.
