First Install

I have a 2004 Mustang with a Mach 460 system, I am going to replace just the head unit with a aftermarket head unit, I bought the new unit from Crutchfield, they sent me all necessary items for a install and I had to get a special wiring harness from Metra for the amps. Now from what I understand, I have to connect the wires from the Metra harness to the wires from the new head unit, then that plugs into the wiring harness from the original head unit.

My question is how do I know which wires go together, this will be my first attempt at replacing a car radio and I am a COMPLETE novice.

Thanks for any help.

They should have given you a wiring harnes that clips to the mach 460 stock harness. You also should have gotten a radio-specific harness that fits your new hu. Both of these harnesses have wires coming from them. Read the instructirons and match colors. When you're done, just clip both ends to their respectable holes.

The wires should match up color to color.

I like to use bell caps, they're easy.

Many prefer to solder them, then wrap the solder joints in electrical tape.

Butt connectors are okay.

JUST DON'T USE WIRE NUTS, WHATEVER YOU DO.

make sense?
