Well, I finished up the box today (sort of). I completed the bottom, the sides, and the port which are all glued, screwed, and cured so they're rock solid. The top however (being that patience is my downfall //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif) I simply just screwed it on without glue so I could at least test it out and still be able to take the top back off to paint the port, and glue and seal the top on permanently.
I can hear a few little rattles coming from the top not being cured in place permanently. Other than that though... it pounds. It's pretty funny actually. With my two shitty comp 10's being fed a measly 125w RMS(each), I actually get a bit of roof and door flex. It really hits the lows where it was lacking before in the sealed pre-fab box. I've gotta say for my first box build, it turned out fairly successful. Once I round off and 45* the sharp corners in the port and actually seal up the box for good, I think there will be a little more potential out of it. I do however have a few questions though for some finishing touches on the box.
1. Since the my comps are black and yellow I was thinking on finishing up the box in black carpet and having the port be gloss yellow to match it. My question is... when painting the port, how many coats of primer and paint do I need on MDF typically? Especially the raw cut edge sides... I'd assume those are like a sponge, and I want it to look decent.
2. Where can I get that carpet that is most commonly used on boxes without ordering it from teh intarnetz. I'm not really sure where to look.
3. Contact cement is the most commonly used adhesive for securing carpet to MDF correct? I don't have access to a spray gun, is the brush/roll on stuff ok or does it soak into the carpet too much?
Sorry for the lack of pictures for the finished product. I just slapped it together so I could get a quick sneak peak. I don't have my camera on me currently but I'll take some tomorrow and maybe a short vid of some Kicker Comp10 flexin'//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
