First Box Build (nothing flashy)

Honda + Subs = Rattles :(
Anyways, I'm building a box for my subs because the prefab sealed one just doesn't seem to work for me anymore. The subs are two 10" crap *** Kicker Comps, but whatever, they get the job done for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Anyways, as you can see in the first picture, I sketched up a design came up with some dimensions and calculated it all up.

The box stats are as follows:

(All external dimensions)

Width - 32"

Height - 14"

Depth - 20"

The port is 12 1/2" tall and is 4" wide for a total port area of 50 sq.in. The port path is also 30" long and with the port volume and subs subtracted from the box, it comes out to just about 3.1 cubic feet with a tune @ 35 Hz.

I think this box is a bit overkill for two 10" comps but what the hell, may as well get the most out of what you've got so I'm giving it a whirl.

Not only is this my first box build, but it is ported as well so this is full of lolz.

Enjoy (Not 56k friendly)

Here's my sketch of my box and what it "will look like" (Hopefully) I also made a cut sheet so I could tell the guy at Home Depot what size MDF to rip.

Mmmm. Nice straight cuts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Here's a quick mock-up of what it will look like. It's just leaning against itself right now, no glue, screws, etc...

I'll take some more pictures here soon.

Not bad. They never make the right cuts. If you plan on building more I would invest in some told so your cuts are accurate. but not a bad start good luck. Predrill the holes before you screw

Started the first joint. The bottom of the box and the right side.

And finally... the L port installed. I'll install the last side and the top tomorrow probably, it's late and I'm working in the basement. There's a bedroom right above where I'm working so I'm not gonna be an ******* :p

More updates tomorrow most likely. Either that, or when I can get my buddy to loan me his router so I can make some nice circles and maybe round of the edges a bit in the port area.

Also thinking about putting a 45* piece in the corner of the port to decrease air turbulence. Would that provide a decent benefit over leaving a 90* turn in the port?

Yeah I was tired and amped up on rockstar at the same time when I did that. After I got done putting it together I was like "LOL, as if there is any difference from the top... I feel smart."

you should see mine, I have top, bottom, side 1, side 2, and all the measurements lol

Yeah, I basically did the same thing. When I calculated what pieces I would need, I drew them out on a piece of paper and how they'd fit onto one piece of 4'x8' MDF board with all the measurements and just handed them to the dude at Home Depot and said "Cut all these out according to the picture" I told him to add like an eighth of an inch to each dimension which was a good idea it turns out. Because some pieces are spot on and would've been too short had I not. When I got the huge pile of wood cutouts back from him, I just took my tape measure and measured out each piece, figured out which one it was, then labeled it. Even "TOP" and "BOTTOM" which are identical and impossible to confuse with any other piece as they are the two largest lol:rolleyes:

Looks good. Nice work. Vids are a must once you are done. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yeah i write the side and measurements almost always.
Box looks good man. Next time, I'd suggest getting your screws a bit further from the edges. Other than that, lookin slick.

I thought of that when I compared the rounded router bit to the screws and saw that it would hit them. So looks like I can't use it to make nice smooth corners, atleast with router anyways. I can still smooth em out by hand a bit... Oh well, it's my very first try.

lol, I'll make sure to take a vid of my "ground-pounding" comp 10's rofl //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Lookin good so far. I hope home depot did a better job cutting wood. Lowes screwed mine all up. And I almost asked for another piece of wood. They guy was a idiot.

The guy that did mine actually screwed up one so he had to go get a whole new 4 by 8 foot piece of MDF //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif But he owned up to his mistake and told me no charge, and cut em all correctly after that. It was like 30 bucks for the MDF, and the cuts. I'm happy overall, saved me the headache of having to manhandle a huge *** piece of MDF. That shit is heavy lol.
