I loved car audio back in HS (80s). Getting married and having kids kind of semi ended the hobby for a number of years. I had a modest system put in my car 2 years ago. I bought a Chevy Silverado from my brother a month ago and I decided to switch the gear. I hadnt done an install in at least 13 years, so I was a little worried.
I had to switch out the following gear.
Panosonic head unit (Ipod compatible)
Coustic amp260
Coustic xm-3 crossover
Zapco amp(cant remember model, fairly new)
1 capacitor
Zapco 9 band peq (can you tell I am old school 80s
Set of coxial speakers (audio something... dont remember
1 12 inch sub in prefabbed box( has a swiss cross on the cone, dont remember brand
I was a little worried of messing up anything in my trusck, so I found a place online that showed pics and descriptions of how to remove everything without breaking something. Well worth the 8.99 price.
I took out all of the stock stuff. Removed the dash trim, and door panels in the process.
Got the install kit with the wiring harness. New head unit went in pretty easy. I had to run the amp remote turn on under the carpet from the head unit to under the rear seat. Ran the Zapco PEQ cable from the head unit to the fold down in the center of the seat. I placed the EQ in that compartment. Mounted the crossover and both amps under the rear seat. Installed new speakers in the door panel, needed to get some particle board and mount the speakers to it then install that in the doors.
Took me from about 8 am to 5 pm to get it all done and I feel so good. I didnt fry anything
, all wires are hidd, amps hid, head unit looks really nice, and it sounds great. I was really worried something was going to go wrong.
I do need to do one thing. The prefab box the 12 is in will not fit properly in the rear. I am going to have to make a new box that will fit under the rear seat. Other than that, WHew, I feel **** good
Nice to be back in car audio once again.
