Find positive with multimeter

My friend has a really old Pioneer DEH-235 and no money. It was missing the wiring harness, so I cut up an ATX power supply and made a harness. I haven't been able to find a reliable pinout, so I'm wanting to use a multimeter to find which sets of wires are the positive and negative for the speakers.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Terry

No such thing.
What's the make/model/year vehicle?

nG

It's a 97 chevy cavalier. Don't really know what good that'll do tho, since I'm trying to find the outputs on the aftermarket unit, not the color codes of the OE harness.

My idea was to power it up, put all the power to one speaker output, then probe the wires till I get a signal. I was figuring that would tell me what wires go to what speaker, now I just need to find out which of the set pos and which is neg. That or find a pinout somewhere.

I would be more than happy to just buy a new harness but I know his deadbeat *** won't come off the money, and I refuse to spend anything more than time on this, so he may just be SOL.

Thanks for the responses.

Your trying to find the wiring diagram for the HU? Just look it up online...
And I still don't understand what you were trying to accomplish with the PSU

All the diagrams I find rely on having the proper wire colors on the harness. I don't have them therefore I need a pinout.

The only thing the PSU has to do with it is that's where I stole the plug from. The main power plug matches with the pioneer plug perfectly, aside from being longer (which I made quick work of with my trusty saw). Obviously PSU manufacturers don't follow the color code for HU's when they're making them, therefore the colors of the wires I have don't match the colors of the OE harness, so I was trying to find out if the speaker positive signal comes from the top row or the bottom row of wires.

I used a few pics I found online, and some guessing, and made it work. Thanks for the posts everyone.
