What it looks like, is a 1997 Civic Si... plain and simple. Same 1.6L engine too.
Honda badged it as an Acura (well, tweaked it a touch first, ABS, AC, interior changes, and front suspension changed a touch) for the much larger Canadian compact car market. It is much more expensive to get a car up here, and gas is a fair bit more expensive as well, so compacts and subcompacts dominate the market. There was an opening for a luxury compact in the Candian market place, but not so much in the American one. It's been a great little car, and a ton of fun.
