Hello guys.

I know I just finished my install in my truck, but I recently sold it for a 99 Camaro. Sorry it has taken a while as many of you wanted to see it.

I finally installed the complete stereo, which took a long time to gather the equipment as I couldn't buy all of it at once. I am VERY happy with the set up besides ONE major thing.

As usual, it has to do with the substage.

First is first, here is the set up list and pics of the final install:

HU: Pioneer DEH-P6900UB

Comps: PG Elites 6.5s (drivers made by Morel)

Subs: Pair of 12 inch TC1000s

Comp Amp: JBL Px300.4 (Bridged, over 350 watts rms x2 at 4 ohms for the comps.)

Sub Amp: Mmats D1500.2 (1200 watts rms at 2 ohms.)

Here are pics of the install:

I have yet to take pics of the subs and enclosure. I will do that probably Thursday (if requested.) However I did not build this one, and it is the same enclosure as from this company, and is the same idea/enclosure as pictured here:

http://www.subthump.com/images/camaro/ttop/edbox2.jpg

To the problem:

I know the net internal volume after sub displacement is 1cf per chamber (sealed, of course), which is small. I happened to have the TC1000s sitting in my room and no others and no money to purchase a fitting pair, so I used them. Honestly, I have no idea what recommended sealed enclosure they need. If I remember around 1-1.6 or so. If this box is simply too small and will refer to my problem I will state, then I guess I know what to do.

The subs are very quiet. I had them in my truck before, and they sounded awesome. Now they are sealed, and barely move/have output. I have done many installs and this is the first time it has really done this. I have to turn the amp gain almost to max (on 4v pre out on the head unit) and the sub gain on the HU up max for them to sound how they "should" while still not getting there. All other bass boosts.eq/features are off. The Gain on the comp amp is pretty much set to minimum and the SCREAM. I'll make another thread on that later but they sound epic. I love them, no problems at all. No voltage problems. Wiring is fine, and simple. Both subs are SVC 4 ohm, wired to 2 ohm load, the only kind you can lol. Each sub is seeing 600 watts theoretically. Why are the subs acting this way? They sound DECENT on rap/techno... anything with a booming sound in the 40-60hz range, or kick drums are decent, but I listen to mostly rock, and they only seem to barely put out the kick drums. Bass lines/guitar (longer lasting notes) are barely visible and sound nasty. Not muddy, but very poor SQ (if you can hear it at all).

Why is it I have to max out the gains to get anything out of these? All other aspects of the install and stereo are perfect. Is 1cf THAT small? My friend had his in a 1.2cf box and they sounded great. Something is for sure wrong, and I have no idea what to check look for.

Sorry for the long post. Just trying to get the most detail out there. ASK anything you want I forgot to add. (Next thing I am going to do is seal up the enclosure myself as much as possible as I noticed when I push on one of the subs the other one moves as well, as if they are sharing the same air space, but they are not as there is a baffle in between them. However I don't see this being related to my previous problem.

Thanks for any input, sorry for the ramble it seems, but I love you and and you love me too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

looks very clean. i am a fellow f-body owner. Actually a T/A WS6... anywho. i hope you plan on covering that wiring either with carpet or //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif I would have run the factory carpet and just made wholes instead of running cable bare like that. It is a clean instal however it would look 100x better if we didnt see the wires all over....

as far the sub output goes..... have you tried another amplifier? it's possible that you have an amplifier that is gone bad... also take pics of the configuration setting if u can, that can help on how it is being tuned...... it IS on LP right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thanks for the response already man, and the image tags, lol.

Yeah it is LP. It is currently set at 80hz. I am 99 percent sure all "settings" and what have you are fine. I've done it plenty before. And yeah, the wires do ****, but I wanted to get the system ready. I might build a better amp rack for it that will do the job.

It isnt that it is just very quiet, it just doesnt sound right. For example, on almost all rock songs, you can hear the kick/bass drum but never a bass line. The amp worked perfect a month before when it was in a different vehicle powering the same subs.

Hmm :/

I'll also take pics of all settings just for kicks later as well. 1cf isnt that "ridiculously" small for these subs in order to completely ruin their performance, right?

I'm lost on what to test/check for this matter.

Caliboy: Did you ever have cancellation issues in your fbody? All I heard from others is that this enclosure made their subs sound very loud and clean. I am getting anything but, and I don't think it is cancellation problems (even though if they were firing into the glass/opposite angle, they would do better I'd assume.)

Are the subs SVC-4 or DVC-4? And they could go in a bigger box, but it sounds to me like there's other issues here for the subs to barely move. Your HU has a Sub Output Level.. Have you checked to make sure this is up?

-Bill-

Are you sure the subs are in phase together? If the amp has a phase switch on it IIRC it should be on 90.

My sister had a Camaro, she had 2 RF P3s and they were real loud. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I had the same problem and **** near destroyed my sub. Put some polyfill in the chamber and see if it makes a difference. My box was too small and my sub started smoking because I turned up the gain. Just try a bigger box or polyfill. That should solve your problem.

The subs are SVC-4.

Sub output level on the HU is indeed up.

Even with gains way up to make the subs actually move like they should (but SQ is bad) the amp doesn't even get warm if barely.

Good to know. Subs are indeed in phase with each other.

Did your sub sound terrible as well being "suffocated" by being in too small of an enclosure? I believe 1cf for the TC1000 was under the smallest recommended enclosure size for TC, so I don't see why it would be so terrible as it seems to be.
