FINALLY!!! I'm actually going to start this recone.

Wow there are some differances then the ones I have seen reconed. The black cap over the pole vent is weird. The extra spider isn't so bad.I would assume this is not a regular production DP.Or a custom built one. With the pole vent caped that would build back pressure on the cone which might explaine the extra spider.
I really hope Nick sees this so maybe he can explain why I've got such an oddball DP. Haha. I hope there isn't any drawbacks of having a custom sub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Yeah. I kinda felt like crap ripping this apart considering the suspension wasn't even close to being broken in (it's only 4 months old), but since the surround ripped, it had to be reconed. I guess I'm glad I didn't just go with a refoam kit, because I would have never known that this wasn't a normal DP. Maybe this was the lost "test sub" that they were experimenting with different options and power handling abilities.............. But probably not. Haha.

My DP did come with 4 spiders. I'm thinking this wasn't a normal sub "off the line sub" when I took it out and noticed the former was longer than the new one, it had 4 spiders, the coil was already discolored(light colored), and the surround had a small scuff in it when I first got it (didn't affect the tearing you see in the pictures, but it's like it had already been used some for testing). Now I'm not sure how many spiders the new cone had, but it's not as thick as the old spiders so I'm guessing this one only has three after what you just said.

Everything you have listed is normal. Your former is not longer, the difference is in the placement of the center of the spider which I have changed. It makes building them easier, and affects nothing because the coil is still centered with the top plate. DP 12's have 4 spiders.....not really important and doesn't negatively affect anything. The cap on top of the pole aids in cooling and is part of the ADC. Voice coils come in all different colors depending on the baking process. They come to us anywhere from a yellowish orange to a dark brown. Hope I have answered any questions you may have...........you had a normal DP before, and will have a normal DP now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ok. Thanks for clearing all of this up. But I still don't get why there would be a cap on the pole piece? Considering ssackett's DP does not have a cap and it's the same model of DP, not the old ones.

I've got it covered with tape now, but it looked like plastic, yet when I tapped it, it sounded like metal. But I'm not sure.

So far I've got the top ring where the surround glues down sanded down so the glue will bond nice and good. Next step is to sand down the spider landing, which will probably happen after I get done putting an alternator on a truck (will load up some videos of said truck when we get the alternator and new battery in). But so far it all seems to be going well. Now I'm just waiting on Nick to send me some CA glue and activator, which I paypaled 4 days ago so hopefully I get a responce back soon. I've got my old Fi Bl in my box right now and it hits pretty hard, but I can't wait till this beast get broken in.

The CA glue is getting shipped to me now so it should be here in the next few days. Here's some more pictures to hold you guys over. That's an 18" Omega sitting beside it. My DP is roughly 5~7 pounds heavier than the Omega. But the Omega basket is just sexy. Haha.

Just mocking everything up tonight to make sure I've got everything and it all fits nice and tight. I just got in the CA glue and activator from Nick today so I'll be gluing this thing together in the morning tomorrow. But this is just a couple pics of the equipment I'm using and everything else in general.

If anyone has any questions I'll be glad to answer them..

detaching the basket from the motor helps so you dont crap up the gap....and then just use a flame to burn off the old spider then use aircraft paint remover to get the old ca glue off....let it sit and the old glue should bubble up and can be brushed off with a steel brush. NO marks in the basket. that would cause the recone to not sit right.
thats not true

ive grinded my baskets down past the paint without problem.

most people dont have access to aircraft pait remover.

Tape over the gap works as well.
