Fiberglass help

Hey guys, I plan on doing something extremely similar to this box build. I need to know what was used to cover the floor to make the bottom portion of this fiberglass. What goes between the floor and the fiberglass? This will be my first attempt at fiberglassing, so I will be learning. I have been researching for the past 3 months so I will be attempting this, but with 4 SA-8's as soon as I sell my BNIB TC Sounds LMS-R 12's

Plastic sheeting and aluminum foil works well. You want to tape the plastic sheeting in such a way that it won't let any resin spill where you don't want it, and you want it as tight to the floor as possible. You can cover this with aluminum foil and lay your resin on top. When you go to break the 2 loose, it comes right off and any extra foil can be flaked away by hand or rubbed off.

Lots and lots of painters tape. Works like a charm. Blue stuff is best. Tape the entire area off. Will take a long time but can ensure 100% coverage. Foil can rip and have holes. Plastic doesn't always form tight to the floor.

Plastic sheeting? Im sorry, I dont follow. What do you mean by plastic sheeting? Do you mean something like this?

But you are saying Plastic Sheeting then Aluminum foil, then the resin... correct?

I was thinking of using what I just posted, the painters plastic with 3-4 layers of aluminium foil then lay down the first round of resin. I have blue painters tape to tape everything off. This blue painters plastic will work great because it will also cover everything in my truck to make sure I dont get resin everywhere.

Just lay down a bunch of aluminum foil and painters tape then glass it.

You can do it either way, use plastic sheeting (2 - 3 layers), aluminum foil, or even painter's tape. The main thing you need to keep in mind is it must seal, and it must be something that resin doesn't like to stick to (something extremely smooth). I don't like painter's tape too much because 1) its expensive to use that much 2) Resin tends to stick to it. Personally, I've used the sheeting and aluminum foil method and it works for me.

I used painters tape. That's a very large area for fiberglass. You need at least 4-5 layers for a very rigid mold. I'm trying something different next time around: I'm using 2-3 layers then reinforcing as much of enclosure (semi-flat areas) with 1/8" - 1/4" MDF (glued using builder's glue) so enclosure will be very rigid and dense and won't have to work with lots of fiberglass which is a major pain.

Just don't rely on plastic sheeting as the 'main' barrier: resin can eat thru that pretty quickly if the curing time isn't as fast as it should be.

Most suggest using it to cover outside the main work area, just to prevent drips.

I am getting ready to do a glassing job myself, and plan to use blue painter's tape topped with HD tinfoil (doubly safe), which I will spray with Pam as my mold-release agent...
