Fi BTL?

I have a two 12" alpine type-r subs ported in my old car running 4ohms at 1000w rms 3000w max. My amp is capable of 2000w rms 4000w max at 1ohm which is perfect for one fi btl sub. I hear good things about fi btl subs, so i was thinking of selling my alpines and getting one 15" or a 18" ported in my new 09 mazda 6 . would there be a huge difference or should i just stick with my alpines? any better options? i would like some feedback on how fi subs are and if its worth switching. thnx.

What model amp are you running? There is a big difference in what size box you will need for a 15 or an 18, if you really have the room to do the box right go for the 18.

I'm running an Alphasonik PMA1000DA. 1,000w@4ohm 1,500w@2ohm 2060w@1ohm 4000w@max.

If you're interested in the alpines I am selling them on Craig's List here.

If you have any other suggestions for a 2000w rms setup I'd be glad to hear it. I want to use that extra 1000w and I have plenty of trunk space in my new car.

if that amp does rated it will be alright until you can get more power.. the btls like 2500+ I have one in my car and its LOUD.. not the most musical.. It does great with rap.. and kick drums... not very good on fast high freq bass..

you are going to want to get a bit more power to the BTL no matter what size you get. if you don't plan on getting a bigger amp you may want to consider running a 15" Fi.BL unless you can get the space for an 18".

well, the new fi btl subs are rated 2000w rms. my amp seems to put out plenty of power. i cant even hear the muisc over my alpines. i could also swap the two alpines wit 2 1000w rms 12" fi bl subs, but i dont think 1.75 airspace will be enough per sub. its recommended 1.5-2.5cu ft.

for 10s that would be fine. is the 1.75 cubes total enclosure/woofer? sealed or ported? you may just want to run a single 15" Fi.BL off of what you currently have. also the music issue, you may want to upgrade your front stage and give it more power or get a set of kicks done.

i plan to put new speakers in after the subs get set up in the new car. the enclosure is 1.75/chamber ported. will i get any sound quality with Fi or are they mostly spl subs?

They have both. . .What do you want? "SQ" in a loud subwoofer install is really an opinion. When you run 1000+ watts to subwoofers in a car to bang out as much bass as you can, are you really looking for SQ? As far as BTL's - I love how they sound, some do not.

Is that 1.75 net volume per chamber, or is that the gross before sub and port displacement?

BTW - even with only 1000 watts, the BTL will still be louder than the BL. How much louder will depend on the install. Is the difference worth the difference in price? That is up to you. . .

well i mostly listen to rap in the car, but the speakers i'll put in should cover bass for rock and other stuff. as for the box, here are the specs. I'm not really sure how the airspace is measured for it.

So do you want to build a new box for a 15", or do you want a pair of 12" for that box?

Just doubling the power is going to make a pretty good difference in output sticking with a pair of 12's.

Fi BL's or even AA havocs would be nice in that box.
