Underpowering a sub will not hurt it. There was a test on a sub awhile back. You could search underpowering or something and I'm sure that it would come up.

ive had both, go with the BTL's

they overall sound better and the lower notes are a lot better on them to me

There's more to cooling than just the diameter of the voice coil.....

mt stll cools through the holes around the bottom of the basket,and 3 inch coil on both,re has a tighter gap than fi,but overall both great subs.

the cooling feature is sub par at best. not necessarily a reason to raise the price 40 bucks on the speaker.
