feels like my w6 is lacking loudness or deep bass

So should I leave my eq low? Or pyle it on? Also, I have a toyota Highlander SUV.
dude set your gains and head unit correctly. Also on pioneer head units with 2 volt preamps, you'll need to have the subwoofer level up for any amp to push its correct amount of power.

sub level all the way up. EQ on completely flat settings, LPF on 80, HPF highest possible(for now), Bass boost off, loudness off.

On your amp, Bass boost at 0, LPF all the way up(for now) subsonic filter off(for now) gain/input level down low.

get a 50 hz test tone

Turn volume up high to the point where your mids and highs almost distort, pretty much your listening level for them. Play that 50 hz test tone and go to your amp and start setting the gain turn it up until you hear the bass tone starts changing distorting or sounding wierd etc.. Back it off a few notches Then your good.

Put low pass filter back on to 80 on your amp and subsonic filter to around 20(if you dont have a subsonic filter dont worry just skip to the next),

back on the head unit, put high pass filter back down to 80.

Have your sub face the trunk hatch, have it 6 inches away from it.

You should get the actual output out of that sub from doing this. If your still not happy then you just have too much output expectations out of a little 10" Sound quality based sub.

Im all over it . I will try this on my lunch and get back to you later.

as stated set your gains correctly first and then realize you got a sq woofer and not a SQL one.

yes a sa-10 will blow that w6 out of the water in output and sound good doing it, but you chose SQ and that's what you got. you want to get "louder" get two w6; you want to get deeper, build a box suited to your goals. I reccomend pwk because he will get your 10 down low with a design suited for low end performance. Dont expect a single 10 in a ported box to get down low "loud".

I feel like just raising my gain even though it may go over the voltage recommended for tuning. I never used a dmm for tuning before and have always had nice sounds. I think I may be pampering this 10'' too much and this may be why I am not getting what I want in sound.

depends on what music you like also. You can always gain up a little bit for rock music and then when your playing hip hop, have the subwoofer level down several notches. All things in moderation, take special care, have 10 minute full blast test sessions to see if the sub or amp doesnt get hot at all, you can go a little bit more, when it just stays warm and your battery voltages are stable and dont drop, then your at a good spot.

yeah, thats what I will try next. I will also keep my bass knob down to a low limit. What about the bass dial on my amp? should I keep it down too?

Heres my amp

I finally got it.... I was in the parking lot of the shop I bought it and I was there to return and exchange to a different woofer set up and that's where I pulled the trigger. I just figured what do I really have to lose? I bought this JL and its the best most expensive woofer I've ever had so I took into consideration the break in period and because I have a 1000 watt RMS amp and 600 watt RMS woofer I tuned it with DMM which didnt ever give me the sound I wanted. So after trying a bunch of different combinations of things I finally thought , screw it, I'm going back to what I've always done things and Im gonna crank up the gain and just back down if I hear clipping. So I increased my gain, turned my bass dial on my amp all the way down and then I TURNED UP volume. It sounded better so I pushed my luck a bit more and turned up the gain again and it sounded even better. I can finally confidently say that this thing hits the lows of a 12'' and has excellent output considering its a single 10'' size and in a small box. That's it , i'm done with the research and experimenting, Its where I want it and I am actually very impressed with the sound. It beats deep like a 12'' with clean, tight solid bass with no distortion or impurity in the bass. Thank you to all who took time to comment in my other post too. Great forum and and happy to have found it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
