Lol ragged......

VV read the quote below.

well since the first sub beauty panel wouldn't work when the sub was in and my frustration going over me to a point where i damaged the panel up pretty bad i ended up setting myself back to having to restart the beauty panel again. this time i had to di it from a different approach. the first one was made so that the sub would "pinch" the panel in place but in reality if didn't want to.

so in hopes to get the panel to sit in place i cut the flat trim that was supposed to be sandwiched in place and attempted to slip it over the sub. after a good hour and a half of trying to get in it place i took my rage out on it.

so i took a break and set the build aside as i needed to think of a way that i can reate a beauty panel that will slip over he sub that isn't permanent. the reason why i can't perma mount the beauty panel is if i ever need to access my coilovers i would be able to with a removable panel.

so what i came up with was to make a sub ring that was set as the size of the outer edge of the speaker. then i'll temp mount the ring onto the box, then fleece it, then remove it. with a ring set, i could then slip that over the sub when mounted.

overall that is what was done this week. i had work this whole week so it pretty much took me all week.

i'll explain as i go.

taped surround so i can mark the placement of the speaker on the enclosure

clearance that may be an issue for the new ring

you can't really see it but the sub top assembly is IN the cut hole for testing. needs a little sanding but it's a snug fit.

DSCN0119.jpg

mounted the top assembly back in place

DSCN0120.jpg

test fitting the ring i know the outer area of the ring isn't perfect nor pretty but i could careless. it's a portion that won't be visible to anyone. plus i just wanted to cut the ring out lol. OHH!!! i forgot to mention. the ring was made out of 1/2" MDF

DSCN0122.jpg

this was a tricky area. i had to sand the top portion of the ring to be thin so when the sub was actually mounted it still has enough clearance to slip over and between the rear dash.

so my idea of mounting the ring was to add a mass amount of hot glue to the back of the ring. i predrilled and mounted 4 screws onto the ring so they can clamp the ring in place to allow the hot glue to cool down.

first after i set the hot glue i let it all cool down.

DSCN0125.jpg

with the hot glue hardened i began to run the screws to at least hold the ring in place. with it in place i took my heat gun and began heating the ring one section at a time to melt the hot glue then tighten down the screw to clamp the ring down.

first section melted and screwed in place

second area and so forth

here i clamped the bottom cause it needed a little support

DSCN0131.jpg

with the ring done it's time for fleece prepping

DSCN0132.jpg

i'm typing up the second batch of pics now lol.

alright with the glue and the car cooled and the car prepped with tape it was time to start fleecing. i didn't take a pic but here is the ring in plave before i removed the screws.

starting to stretch

DSCN0134.jpg

after the starting of the stretch i took the basket once again and clamped it into place to pull the fleece into the trim ring

DSCN0135.jpg

since some of the area of the fleece wasn't making contact with the ring i had to crazy glue it in place

resin it up and ready for glassing. i had to use bondo again. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

glassin it

DSCN0149.jpg

after i was gone glassing i had to get the basket out before i could pull the trim out. i had to "chisel" it out to break off the excess FG that got onto the basket. **** that was tedious.

DSCN0150.jpg

cleared out

DSCN0151.jpg

fleece trimmed to allow access for heat gun

DSCN0152.jpg

heat gunned and removed. it came off pretty easy after like 5 minutes of heating it all up and tugging a bit

DSCN0154.jpg

ready for trimming

DSCN0155.jpg

fleece cut

DSCN0156.jpg

i then took some 5minute 2part epoxy and spread a bead along the joining of the fleece and the trim ring. why? cause i just want to make sure that the ring won't come off while i'm adding filler or sanding being that the ring is really only held on by a little bead of crazy glue.

DSCN0157.jpg

DSCN0158.jpg

bead set

DSCN0159.jpg

while the glue was setting it was time for some clean up

done

DSCN0165.jpg

took the dremel and trimmed off the excess glass around the edges and prepped it for glassing for further trim. lol.

panel set in place

DSCN0167.jpg

DSCN0168.jpg

a little tape added and a clamp just to be safe so it doesn't come off while i'm glassing

glassing the trim

pulled. i gotta tell ya, using paste wax is the shit!, it literally took me 15 seconds to pry off the panel.

DSCN0173.jpg

trimmed up and washed down. using the heat gun to remove any excess moisture prior to add body filler

DSCN0174.jpg

filler spread and sanded.
