Aenima is my all time favorite song

tool is a very powerful meaning band not for the simple minded and yes they do take some time to get used to, since they arent the type of band you can just get into right away

 
Have any of you seen a documentry called All We Are Saying? I watched it the other night....thought it was on Showtime On Demand maybe. Anyway she interviewed MJK among others about the industry. I tought it was interesting what he had to say. Basically he mentioned that the entire process of making music parallels the violence and struggle needed to produce quality human beings.

Many think Tool's music is so dark...and it is to an extent...but if you really listen, there's an art an beauty in the messages. I like how Maynard talks about the process of burning off the ego and forgoing gratification to reach 'oneness' and purity of spirit. I find it to be deep and fulfilling as do many fans.

On of my favorite Tool passages ever.

In Theosophy, it is said that the physical body is a trap or an extreme restriction of the human soul. Also known as an incarnate, the physical lifetime offers the individuated soul an experience in the greatest show on Earth. It also allows a person to experience all of what life has to offer on a visceral basis - something that the higher plane bodies cannot.

What he is saying is that his body remids him of what it means to be traped, to be restricted to the limitations of the physical plane. His body reminds him of possibly a past life where he experienced the death of his former incarnate, only to be passed along the cosmos to the body he is being held in now.

In terms of time, there exists only now! Time is an illusion...it can only be expressed in terms of the past and the future. Both of which don't even exist. Embrace this moment...now....forever...because that's all there is. And remember, pain is only the ego's attempt to help you experience more life. To have pain is to live right now....however time is still an illusion. Embrace your pain for it can only happen right now, and then it is gone.

The human soul is gifted to the human body upon conception. It is a manifestation between the cosmos and the Earth. The metal plane is infinite. The home of the human soul is among many planes of existence. "We are eternal" suggests that we are not limited to the physical plane for only our physical lifetime. We are forever, only our body lives once.

These lyrics speak to me more than anything right now, and The Patient is one of my favorite all time songs. Whether the meaning i extract was MJK's vision or not doesn't matter IMO. I've always been the nice guy and helped people regardless of how they've treated me in the past. I've been used by girls that walk all over me because I refuse to be the prick that most girls are looking for. I'm dependable...a rock that will always be there, and it sucks sometimes, but I know I'll be rewarded for it sooner or later. So, "if there were no rewards to reap...I certainly would have walked away by now." I'm just gonna wait it out.

^^^ Nice! In any interview I've seen with Maynard he's always said that his lyrical content is 'open to interpertation'....much like his behavior....on stage presense....or his attitude. Take it for what it's worth to YOU because, in reality, things are not what they seem!
