NA, it is not worth it anymore. They will like what they like rather from personal tests, bad experiences and what not. We like our product, because it has worked for us, why, who knows, I guess we just got lucky!

Now I am done with this shit as I have made more enemies than friends, lol! Not that I care, but really is just beating a dead horse anymore.

Internet tough guys will always be internet tough guys, period! Twas fun at first, but have since grown tired of it, which will make certain users happy, I am sure of it.

With that said, I will still recommend fatmat, as I have had nothing but a good experience with it, same as most other deadeners I have used either in my install or helping out a buddy.

Simple as that, if you guys don't like it, tough shit, go on and on about how you hate it and it won't work and blah, blah, blah!

It may look like it did the day you laid it down, but it is almost certainly not the same. Asphalt is flexible because it contains VOCs. If all of the VOCs outgas before the prodcut melts, you will have a stable but completely rigid material that has even less damping effect than it did when it was new. Naturally the aluminum foil looks the same as it did when new.
Whether or not FatMat is "technically" a roofing product, I can guarantee that the batches run on the same machinery before and after it were indeed roofing products. The critical point is that it is rubberized asphalt. Asphalt has a very low melting point. Rubber compounds are added to increase its heat tolerance - thus rubberized asphalt. Rubberized asphalt is spec'd to withstand 180²F for 30 days. Longer exposure or higher temperatures require butyl in construction. Both time and temperature are critical. Increase the temperature and the time decreases. Increase the time and the temperature decreases. The reason for this is that the rubber compounds degrade over time at temperatures below 180°F.

Your astonishment at reported failures is akin to not believing you got lung cancer from smoking because your grandfather smoked a pack a day for 60 years and then was hit by a bus. His experience doesn't "prove" that smoking is safe any more than your experience proves that rubberized asphalt is durable in a car. People drastically underestimate the temperatures this stuff gets exposed to. They measure the air temperature inside a car, see that it doesn't get above 150²F and wrongly conclude they are safe. In fact, it is very easy for the sheet metal t get to 180 which is, after all, where we put this stuff.

Early in this thread, Jacob from Sundown related his own sad experience with asphalt products. Wat he didn't say was that his installation technique was bordering on the compulsive. If anybody deserved t be rewarded for their diligence, he did.

You can kid yourself all you wnat that your FatMat is completely different than Peel & Seal. I've held both in my hands at the same time and run them through a series of tests, side by side. I promise you that they behave in exactly the same way except that the P&S had BETTER adhesion strength.

Also, I have done full on installs with both, 3 installs of fatmat and one PS and both did seem to work well, and yes the PS was cheaper, so I will give you that. I never even said I wasn't all for getting some PS, which I just might again.

And one more thing. My lungs are as clean as a whistle and I was around 2nd hand smoke a lot when I was a child, just never smoked myself. It's an otherwise GREAT product and a worthy "deadener" alternative because of your and others failed logic and inability to understand the very crux of a very simple set of conditions that need to be met. My expereince with asphalt mat has been (almost) nothing but good. Why does your good experiences with asphalt mat seem to blind you to the science that tells us butyl based mat is far superior, when it did not for me? I dont necessarily think Im that much smarter than you or anyone here. *shrug*

As long as anyone who reads this knows that your recommendation is just based on your word, then all should be well. Your word isn't worth much with no information to back it up... just your experience. Your experience led you to do that crappy install, so that isn't worth much either.

I'm going back to the inescapable conclusion that you are n the pad for FatMat. There is no other possible explanation for a human being being so closed minded. The differences in adhesion were minimal and well within what would be expected from a material that is basically dug out of the ground.
