fans on remote turn on?

The remote is a switched 12 volt line and not a source of power. All its there for is to tell the amp to turn on or off. Get some kind of remote switched power supply or toggle it from the battery. Leave the remote source alone.

on my fans there are three wires, one red(power), one(black)ground, and then there is a white one, could that be for the remote turn on?
Who makes them??? What brand model? Are they specificly for Car Audio Systems? If so, that extra wire might be.. If not I doubt it...

Like everything else there are many ways to do things and you'll get many answers..

Myself I use a relay. I use the amp turn on or remote wire offa the head unit just as a trigger wire, not a source... It triggers the relay which powers the fans and amps and neons even if ya wanna go that far...

I've heard some people say, ""We I've run yada yada yada, number of amps for 69 years and never had a problem." and I have heard people say you can fry the output section that puts the remote turn on power out....

I say why take a change get a fricken reay, call it done..

Most likely the extra wire is to tell the computer how fast it's spinning. I've seen some people run small small stuff off of the remote wire but usually the current is so low it's not a good idea. Get a DC 12v car relay, run another power wire, and you're set.

If you don't know what a relay does, think of it like an automatic toggle switch, and wire it as such.

best of luck.

where can i get a relay?
Everytime I try to buy one local they try to mark them up a few hundred percent...

I usually order like 5 or 10 at a time and just keep them on hand... never know when you'll need one and for what when you do alot of stereo work or other custom crap...

I get mine from Parts Express, here a link

Here is the pre-wired Realy Sockets I use too... You can make you onwn, but for a Buck.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif Whatever....

They will even give you a free diagram to show different ways or applications to use relays... If you call, just give'em the part number or add the part number to your cart... the price should be 0.00

Hope that helps....

I have ordered tons of crap from Parts Express.... They probabbly have some of the best shipping and customer service for a parts house...

9/10 times there are pin numbers on the bottom of the relay and a little chart on the top that shows you how to wire it, but it is really simple.

You want it to be on only when voltage is flowing across it (NO ... normally open) so you wire one prong to your 12v terminal of your battery (pin 30) .. you ground pin 86.

Wire the remote turn on lead to 86, and the red fan wires to 87 and you are set.

If you are confused, read this:

Usually when you shop for a replacement harness for your model, you will find the pictures may show you in what pins your wires go to.
