What brand model?  Are they specificly for Car Audio Systems?  If so, that extra wire might be..  If not I doubt it...Like everything else there are many ways to do things and you'll get many answers..Myself I use a relay. I use the amp turn on or remote wire offa the head unit just as a trigger wire, not a source... It triggers the relay which powers the fans and amps and neons even if ya wanna go that far...I've heard some people say, ""We I've run yada yada yada, number of amps for 69 years and never had a problem." and I have heard people say you can fry the output section that puts the remote turn on power out....I say why take a change get a fricken reay, call it done..</blockquote>
