Factory Radio Question

Hey guys my wife just got a 06 Pontiac Torrent

she wanted this one because she was told it has XM

Well if you push the xm/aux button the radio display says not available

so my question is (well one of my questions)

1. Is the xm built into the radio usually or a seperate hideaway unit? from my exprience its usually a seperate unit.

2. anybody ever add a factory xm unit to a car not equiped with it?

3. Does anybody know of any aftermarket units that can be intigrated with the factory radio (aside from the Delphi dash mount and similar). I want the factory radio to control it.

Not sure if its doable.

I believe the dealership has to install a seperate unit at extra cost of course. My car came with one year free xm radio and then I found out that it needed a seperate unit installed through the dealership for extra money....Rip off!

yeah i figured it needed the seperate brain. the dealer told her the whole radio needed to be replaced, which i thought odd

i just bought an 08 GMC 2500HD and it came with the XM in the factory HU... i was under the impression that all the new GM products were factory equipped with xm modules.....

if you already have the xm button, then you should just need the tuner.

ok I think i figured it out

a Terk XMD1000 plus a AXXESS interface should hook right up to it will

found the terk unit on ebay so going to pick that up and call and order the AXXESS interface and harnesses
