Factory Head Unit

Is it true that all factory head units will eventually burn out and die is you try to stick burnt CD's in them? I just had one go out on me. I had a Ranger that I played burnt discs in all the time and it never gave me any trouble using the factory head unit. I drive a Pontiac Sunfire 2002 model now. Its only got 32000 miles on it. The wierd thing is that it worked fine until I installed some caps to go between the head unit and the front speakers. Then I turned it on to test out the speakers and my cd player had gone out. help!!!

The people i've been working with told me I would need $140 to get an after market CD player that would play burnt cd's just fine and the apropriate adapters. Does this sound about right or can I get it cheaper?

Half decent mp3/wma decks around 100 dollars are quite common these days.

Although I'm pretty sure that your pontiac requires a terribly expensive wiring harness($100).

Any care to chime in and expand on the subject?.
