it is very hard to find info on eclipse hu's on the net and eclipse's site isn't much help. I have found some 5435's and some 5444's for sale which ones are better? i'm guessing the 5444's are older cuz they are not on eclipses site? what is a good price for each of them used?

EDIT: I guess I should tell you what my planned use is. I'm looking to do an active crossover with these parts:

-----------------------------------------------

Crossover: COUSTIC XM6: 50$

Midrange: Seas CA18's: 50$x2 http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=4653502.7176&pid=1599

Tweeters: seas 32$x2 http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=4653502.7176&pid=1005

amplifier:hifonics tx8805 200$ http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2886

headunit:eek:ne of these eclipses

-----------------------------------------------

do these parts look good? which headunit whould I go for?

Doubt this helps but the take the 5444, the first # (5) is the voltage output, the 2nd # (4) no clue, the 3rd #(4 again) the higher this nuber the closer to the top of the line in that series...in this case being the 5 volt series, and the 4th # (4) is the model year. looking at those ##s you might be able to determine. Just a thought.

it was the cd5435, not av. I needed to order yesterday to get by xmas so I already ordered. I found a copy of eclipse's old brochure on the net(they don't have it on their site), and realized the 5444 had more features that suited me like a 13 band eq and 24 bit dac, so I got that instead. Seems like I made the right choice because as smgreen said it was a higher end model when it came out. Now I just hope I didn't get ripped on ebay...I doubt I did though.

just an update, all my parts have come. I plan to start the install tomorrow. I just need to pick up a fuse, a bunch of wiring & a radio antenna adapter and i should be ready to install. I plan on running a 2 way active crossover setup with my CA18's in the door and tweeters either next to them in the door or in small kick pods(no room for full sized kicks). My crossover is the xm6 and my amp is the hifonics tx8805. Any install suggestions before I begin? How important is sound deadening in the door and aiming the speakers?

I'm hoping the parts I got were good... I heard eclipse head units were good and the speakers/crossover were suggested by squeak... the amp just seemed like a good deal for the money.

one last question...how loud will this setup be? My friend is running coaxials off of his 13wX4 RMS head unit, and his gets pretty friggen loud. His is the loudest i've heard though, so I really have no reference for how loud this 55x4 RMS is gonna be. Will it hopefully //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif get louder than I ever want to hear it?

I'm also worried about my bass because he has a 15" RE XXX in a 33hz ported box(it was so big we had to assemble it IN the trunk of his civic hahaha), so I can't really use his as a reference. will the bass response at least be a bit better than stock? I know it won't be anywhere near his
