F*cking TV Issues....need suggestions

Ok so my TV decided to start being retarted last week. The picture started to have a diagonal mess up that caused issues in picture quality. Today I turned it on and noticed that the screen is all jacked up. The picture looks like it fades back into a "U" shape and I can see the red/green/blue light seperating on the screen. The TV is at least 6yrs and 7 months old as it was serviced for a busted speaker then by my fiance's dad. Now I really want a new TV but I'm not sure what to look at and what to get.

I don't want/need more than say a 42-46" TV not sure on what kind either between DLP etc etc etc. Any suggestions are appreciated.

been there done that lol. i kicked the shit out of it last night and unpluged it for the night. still isn't working.
