POOPSIE McSQUIRTYSHORTS
I got a certified letter years ago from some law office in California saying I was being sued for illegally downloading "Meet The Parents". My ISP at the time was SBC and it seems they don't care about giving away your personal information so I got rid of them real soon afterwards.
There were over 100 "john doe's" represented in the case who had all downloaded various movies belonging to the Disney company. Personally I think they just sent it out to everyone trying to see who would be foolish enough to pay them and I am sure some did. I just ignored the package it, threw it away and haven't heard a **** thing since.
Funny thing was, I wasn't even trying to get "Meet The Parents" I was trying to download a **** and it was mislabeled. How could I be sued for downloading something when I didnt even realize what it was until after I got it? Even so I already owned "Meet The Parents" on DVD so I just deleted it anyway
Truth is they have no idea that you dont legally own those songs. You could go to the music store and buy those cd's right now(obviously pay with cash and "lose" the receipt showing the date) and have proof that you own the originals when you show up in court.
However the way they try to screw you is to say you were uploading them to people who dont legally own them and that is how you broke the law.
BTW, I sold that movie(and ALL my Disney movies) and have continued to dispise Disney for their efforts to try to **** me into paying them money for something I didnt do
