Best thang smokin'!
So in the middle of a game of Gears of War, my mom comes downstairs screaming about a letter she got in the mail from some legal office. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/pissed.gif.9f665f96bc89e98e708dabd4580bb591.gif Of course my resonse is, "What'd you do?". Apparently it wasn't her, it was me. The letter comes from Holme Roberts & Owen LLP representing Sony BMG Music Entertainment in regards to me downloading copyrighted music... Me? Copywrited music? Naww.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif Attached is a small list of about 8 or so songs I downloaded no less then 2 years ago. They ask that I do not delete the 'evidence' in question and to disable my P2P programs immediately. They go on to say I have 10 days to respond before they take it to Federal court and give a link to make a settlement online. I entertain the idea and visit the website only to find that they're asking for one lump sum credit card payment of $4,000. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif Obviously I promptly said "go f*ck yourself" and closed my browser. Since downloading the music (2 years ago), I've got a brand-spankin'-new computer with none of the 'evidence' loaded on it.

Can they still come after me and win something? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

Has anyone else gotten a similar notice?

when i got caught downloading a movie, universal emailed me that i got caught. and to delete the movie. had a time, date, everything. that was years ago. never heard from them since.

If you have only once on your new computer used a p2p program or have downloaded something, you should buy a new hard drive and take out the one in your computer. Then I would install windows on the new hard drive and hide the old one at your friends house just in case they search your house.

I got a letter a month or two ago saying that my ISP was being sued and didn't think much of it. Apparently SBC/Ameritech/Whever the f*ck they call themselves now are giving out customer information to these people (I would imagine so the record companies can get the majoirity of their money from us).

sue sony back for putting copyright shit on their CD's. thats why you downloaded the music. Their was a huge lawsuit because of viruses and shit that sony's music CD's installed on your computer when you played them.

you were afraid that if you bought the CD's, your computer would malfunction and be destroyed. Since you dont know anything about computers wink wink it would have cost thousands of dollars to fix.

COUNTERSUE FTW!

Good point, why would the RIAA say to make a credit card payment, they would just take you to court in the first place.

contact sony and say "are you guys really suing me or is this just a big misunderstanding?"

lol.

Tell on one of your friends who downloaded 9 songs and then you'll be off the hook!

but yes, that does sound a little fishy.

YES!!!!!!!!! Take it from someone who got jacked by them also.....yes at first I talked big sh*t when I first got served, I wasn't going to pay them a dang dime because even though I wasn't the one that did it it was still my computer. I met with my lawyers about it, one of which whom used to work for HRO told me of their tactics of dragging things out in court so long that most people tend to run out of money trying to fight them, it would be best to settle....so I did. I settled for 5k.

What I find strange in your case though is that they asked for $4k and you only had about 8 songs on your computer. I had a couple of thousand songs in mine and settle for $5k and now I have to pay these pricks $250.00 a month.

Just a little FYI, on whatever program you are using disable your sharing function, that's how they catch ya.......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif :crying: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif
