RIAA launches P2PLawsuits.com

Latest dot com

By Nick Farrell: Thursday 01 March 2007, 09:58

THE RIAA has set up a dot com business to make it easier for people it accuses of piracy to pay what the industry claims they owe. P2Plawsuits.com allows people who have been accused of piracy to enter their case number and pay up without needing to go to court. If people chose to pay this way, the RIAA promises that they will get a "a substantial discount" from what they would have had to settle for before this campaign launched. Officially the RIAA says that the reason for the set up is at the request of people who want their names to be kept off the public record. However according to Wired, the RIAA has been having trouble getting enough evidence to take people to court. Particularly if they sit behind a University network. Still nice money if you can get it. All you have to do is ring someone up, tell them they owe you a sum of money which you could have invented. They then log in and pay up. More here.

Don't pay any attention to those that are saying that it's a scam or that it looks fishy because I can assure you that it ain't, it's very legit.

By the time you get that first letter from SBC that their records are being subpenoed, the RIAA already have enough info to crush you, the remaining piece that they need is a name to go with the IP address. These guys are very good at what they do trust me. I though it was a joke and told them that I was going to fight them in court so I requested discovery to prepare a defence and when the process server delievered the packet to my house.....it was like ooooh DAAAAMMMNNN! There were pages and pages of screen shots of my entire music data base complete with IP address and login name and everything....that's when I called my layers because this had just gotten very serious.

If I was you I'd see if I could negotiate that settlement down, they will say that they can't at first but keep at them and they will, they will even offer you a payment option.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif :crying: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

Question for anyone whos a laywer:

so say you DO partake in copyright infringement. Is it legal for the plaintiff to purposefully drag out the court trial long enough that you go bankrupt, so that you are pretty much forced into paying the settlement?

Isn't that extortion?

PS:

Please tell me you used some sort of Firewall/IP Blocker right?
