Extra junkyard alternator instead of pricey upgrade?

im planning for a system right now. about 2200 rms watts total. my factory alt is 130 amps and ive done some research and think it would be best if i had a bit more, but i have seen systems with multiple alternators, so i thought hell, if i can go grab another factory alt from the junkyard and just have two in there, instead of spending 200+ on an upgraded one, id save a lot of cash. tried searching and couldnt really find anything on this. is it a pain in the a** to hook up a second alt? thanks yall

great topic id like to see how this turns out:popcorn:

Essentially it can be done in some cars but not all as you may need expensive brackets Some cars just don't have the room. And some cars even have really small output alts Like I said already. Just depends on the car

any idea where i could look for more info on installing an extra alternator, or on this topic in general? ive got a 97 mountaineer. big 5.0 but idk how easy itd be to mount another alt in there.

some companies make brackets, but most are pretty pricey.best option is to have someone do it who has done one before

130 amp should be sufficient as long as you have the big 3 done, along with a few deep cycle batteries
to my understanding the extra batteries are not necessary unless i plan on running the system with the vehicle off. again, to my understanding, a regular old battery will do (at 2200 rms) as long as i have enough amps from the alternator(s) going to the battery needed to keep the battery charged while it is is powering the amp.

i plan on doing the big 3, but when the math is done, it looks like i need about 190 amps to run 2200 watts.

you say 130 amp should be sufficient "along with a few deep cycle batteries". are you implying that without the batteries, i would need more amps, but with batteries, more than 130 amperage wont be necessary?

this is entirely dependant on your car .some cars can run 2200 rms with no more than 0 gauge wire and a good agm battery under the hood and big 3 ,others no so good
