Experts: Please explain this phenomenon

Okay. What was the measured amplifier distortion in both scenarios? That would quickly eliminate one of the posed explanations. What was the applied power in both scenarios? Listening levels? Power input voltage? Did you have an ABX switcher so that you could listen to them both, at matched levels in the important categories, to determine if you could identify the differences without knowing which you were listening to a statistically significant number of times? Need I continue?

You apparently don't understand proper variable isolation and control, or what constitutes a variable.

Scientific methods be damned! My ears tell me everything I need to know!
Why do all of that when you can simplify it. Work smarter, not harder.

And this is how people fall into horrible misconceptions and myths such as higher impedance sound better, class x sounds better than class y, etc etc etc //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
You're ears aren't as right as you think they are. And they certainly can not tell you why you are hearing a difference.

The fact is, is you dont know what I hear. You dont know how I listen and how I pick out certain details. Everyone does it differently. Everyone listens in a different way. There will NEVER be a standard, no mater how scientific you get.

This brings up a question for me. If an amp is set at 800w @ 1ohm will it have a bigger load on the electrical system than an amp set at 800w @ 4ohm? Or will the load be the same since the draw for power is consistent??
In general a given amp will be more efficient at a higher load at an equal power level.

I suppose if I poured half a can of coke into a champagne glass you would tell us all it tastes better then it does from a plastic cup... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I doubt it.

Ill invite anyone to come hear what I am talking about.

Listen bro... you asked the question.. here is the answer:

The 'phenomenon' you have encoutered is you tricking yourself into thinking something sounds different when it does not.

To my amazement, I immediately noticed a very obvious improvement in the bass response. It was very noticeable. It sounded more detailed, more defined. The different notes were more clear, the "thumps" hit harder, and transient response improved dramatically.

As I said a few times already, I tried this without knowing what it would sound like. I thought I would clip the amp trying to push the subs.

I dont understand you people. What do you do? Spend a decent amount of money on gear and just throw it in there and blast away without actually listening to it!

You just can get over the fact that I heard a REAL change in the sound. I tried to explain it the best I could.

Learn how to listen, get your hearing checked, then fly to Jax. Fl and I will be happy to let you listen.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

They're simply explaining to you the REASON why you heard what you heard. What Squeak has said can be repeated many times over by different people in numerous conditions. What contend is all in your own head. That's fine, you heard what you heard and you're happy. Cool. NO ONE IT SAYING YOU DIDN'T HEAR WHAT YOU HEARD!!!!!!!! Read carefully. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

They are assuming that "its all im my head" which is a poor excuse for somebody who cant offer a reasonable explanation.

what is not reasonable about that explination ?

Have you even considered that what you experienced could have been 100% placebo effect ????

Because I am quite sure it was..

Have you considered that it may could have just sounded better? I'm sure he's listened to his system long enough to know how it sounds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i hope you can get this resolved but some days my subs sound like hammered horse s*it and some days it sounds great and i havent changed anything im sure if you put it back to 1ohm youll say it sounds good hmm

Yes I have considered that..

The only possibilites are that there was a difference in distortion levels or a difference in output level as previously stated..

He said to begin with there was less volume, but that the sound was "more detailed, more defined, different notes were more clear, the "thumps" hit harder, and transient response improved dramatically"

Possibly he had less distortion.. Which means he dosen't know how to setup a system properly in the first place; and would get the same 'sound' at 1ohm by turing the gain down..

No, fegs like this want to dream about how damping factor makes the sound so much better and blow smoke about how class AB amps are so much cleaner then D's.. ect ect..

Ok, so you have considered that I did actually hear a difference, but thats only because I cant possibly know how to set up a system.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Go play with your funky pups since all subs probably sound the same to you too:laugh:
