Experienced pls reply

Hi guys, i used to cruise this forum a few years ago, been out of the game for a while, but buying a new car and im back here organising my next setup.

i was in new york 2 months ago and i picked up a set of Diamond M6 5 1/4 splits. i got a mate who can give me an old rockford punch series 1 amp 100x2 RMS if i want to power the diamonds. question is, is this amp clean enough for the diamonds, and im not sure if 100RMS each side is enough for them to sound their best.

do i ditch the punch amp and buy a new amp?

I've also got a Soundstream 502 which is 100x2 also, planning to use it@ 2ohm for a pair of 10's, but im flexible where this amp goes in my setup.

Willing to buy a new amp if needed.

Any feedback welcome.

it should work fine... more power wouldnt hurt but..
If it's an OLD punch amp, dem bishez beez overrated as heck! That amp will be great for a set of comps. The only real point of amping comps is so they'll keep up with your woofers. Unless your woofers are insanely loud, 200w worth of comp should be more than enough.

series 1 amps were the silver and purple amps NOT punch if memory serves me correctly they were down the lines of ppi sedona series amps and kicker impulse ect
its a black series 1 amp, and the model number on the amp ends with an x i think. but is this amp gonna get the best out of the diamonds? i heard that this amp might make the tweets sound too bright? is that right info?

i was thinking of using the SS502 amp for the splits, and then buy a new amp for the subs - 2 10's..im not f'in sure

Put the SS on the comps . You cant beat SS for SQ on comps . Im hooked on them . I have ran about 5 different amps on my CDts and the SS blows them all away . Amps including Arc Audio . PPI , Orion Hcca , Orion Xtreme , US amps , RF .. ect and the SS brings them to life better than any of them . It just a much warmer sounding amp and seems to take away alot of the harshness the other amps seem to have . My 14 cents ........

the us amps will not add any sound or distort any sound simply b/c they do not typically come with any kind of built in crossover. the ppi amps if old don't either, arc audio do which can color the sound as well as orion. an amp is an amp is an amp, there is no better watt there is no worse watt. i would stick with the Rf it's tuff to beat an old RF, however, that amp could possibly power your subs fine also.

Well hell if they all sound the same im going to go buy a couple Legacy's and sell these overpriced amps I have !

Lets not get into this "all amps sound the same thing" They plain and simply dont . By the way none of my soundstreams have any crossovers in them .

thatts why they sound better
What sounds better ? Amps without x-overs ? My point was all amps dont sound the same even ones without x-overs because amps have different filters in them that will also make them sound "better" than lets say cheaper amps . Also better components , Different amount of preamp stages ect. There is a difference between different lines of amps and how they sound atleast to me there is !

You have ZERO, I repeat, ZERO evidence to back up such a claim because it's simply not true. They plain and simple do.

As for the RF Amplifier, it will do the job just fine for you, and any component set being fed 100W a channel will rip your head off. You won't need any more power than that, trust me.

Yeah,

100W per channel is more than enough....... As for the issue with amps....don't think your going to see a difference bewteen those two amps, as long as they have the same xover pts and same power output.

The m6 are a good over all speaker line from diamond....and the hex's are a little better, but nothing to get excited about.

Go with the amps you have........

BTW:

Most people that say amp A is going to make speakers sound better than amp B beacause B cost more should go hit themselves in the back of the head........

And I would definetly not consider soundstream...or even arc sound quality amplifiers....becuase they do color the sound a tiny itty bit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Us amps are nice....except their exterior build quality and lack of functions.....but some people dig that though :p
